as we have described;-not only for the sake of the famishing millions in the cities themselves who are destitute of the bread of life; but also as the most likely means, under Providence, of maintaining the Church in that position which it has so long occupied, as the main instrument employed by God for the spiritual improvement and salvation of his people.
