[blocks in formation]

1. I LOOKED, and behold a door was opened in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was as it were a trumpet talking with me, which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.

2, 4. And immediately I was in the spirit, and behold a throne was set in heaven, and round about the throne were four and twenty elders clothed in white raiment, and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

5, 8. And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices. And voices were heard saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD GOD Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.

10. And the four and twenty elders which were round the throne fell down before him, saying,

11. O LORD, thou art worthy of honour, and praise, and glory, for ever and ever. O LORD, we give thee thanks for ever. [STEVENSON.

1. I LOOKED, and lo, a Lamb stood on the mount of Zion, and with him a hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written on their foreheads.

2. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters; and I heard a voice of harpers harping with their harps:

3. And they sung a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts and the elders. And no man could learn that song, but the hundred forty and four thousand which were redeemed from the earth.

4. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. Hallelujah. These are they which were redeemed from among men, being the first-fruits unto God and to the Lamb.

5. And in their mouth was no guile, for they are without fault before the throne of GOD. Hallelujah. [STEVENSON.

IN GOD rejoice with songs of praise; he is our helper and defence; the LORD JEHOVAH is our king. O LORD of hosts, thou art my hope, my Saviour, my God, in whom I trust; to thee will I lift up my soul, and bless and praise thy glorious Name.

Sing to the LORD, O ye saints of his; sound out his praise through all the earth. [HANDEL.

1. In Jewry is God known his Name is great in Israel.

:

2. At Salem is his tabernacle and his dwelling at Zion.

3. There brake he the arrows of the bow the shield, the sword, and the battle.

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was God.

2. The same was in the beginning with GOD.

3. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4. In him was life; and the life was the light of

men.

5. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6. There was a man sent from God.

7. The same came to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of GOD, even to them that believe on his Name.

14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only-begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

17. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by JESUS CHRIST. [KENT, HODGES.

1. In the beginning GoD created the heaven and the earth.

2. And the earth was without form, and void: and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.

4. And God saw the light, that it was good and GOD divided the light from the darkness.

11. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit-tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself upon the earth and it was so.

The marvellous work behold amazed the glorious hierarchy of heaven, and to the ethereal vaults resound the praise of God and of the second day.

* The heavens declare the glory of GoD:
The firmament displays

The wonder of his work.

Day unto day doth utter speech,
Night unto night doth knowledge shew;
In ev'ry land their voice is heard,
Never unperceived,

Ever understood.

* OR THIS:

Ps. xix. 1. The heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament sheweth his handy-work.

2. One day telleth another and one night certifieth another.

:

4. Their sound is gone out into all lands and their words unto the ends of the world. [HAYDN.

1. In the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2. Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen a star in the east, and are come to worship him.

There beneath a lowly shed

They found the heav'nly infant laid,
There richest gifts before him spread,
And humblest adoration paid.

xx. 18, 19. When the time drew near, that all things that were written concerning the Son of man should be accomplished, that he should be delivered unto the Gentiles, and be mocked and spit upon, and that they should scourge him and put him to death, and on the third day he should rise again;

xxi. 8. Then Jesus went up to Jerusalem, and a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and spread them in the way.

9. And the multitude that went before, and followed after, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the LORD; Hosanna in the highest.

[PRATT from HANDEL.

1. In thee, O LORD, have I put my trust let me never be put to confusion; deliver me in thy right

eousness.

2. Bow down thine ear to me make haste to deliver me, for I am poor and in misery.

3. And be thou my strong rock, and house of defence that thou mayest save me.

4. Be thou also my guide, and lead me for thy Name's sake.

5. Draw me out of the net, that they have laid privily for me for thou art my God.

6. Into thy hands I commend my spirit: for thou hast redeemed me, O LORD, thou GoD of truth.

16. But my hope hath been in thee, O LORD: I have said, Thou art my GoD. Hallelujah. Amen. [WELDON, MATTHEWS from MOZART.

1. In thee, O LORD, have I put my trust, let me never be put to confusion : deliver me, incline thine ear unto me, and save me, O LORD, in thy righteousness. 2. Be thou my strong hold and my house of defence for thou hast promised to save me.

:

8. Deliver me, O my GOD, out of the hand of the ungodly out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.

4. For thou, O LORD GOD, art the thing that I long for thou art my hope, even from my youth.

7. O let my mouth be filled with thy praise that I may sing of thy glory and honour all the day long. 8. Cast me not away in the time of age: forsake me not when my strength faileth me.

10. Go not far from me, O God: my GoD, haste thee to help me. [HALL, ROLLE.

1. Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?
