A WRITER of the present day, of deserved popularity, has very pertinently observed, "We must seek a revival of religion, by a revived attention to the Scriptures: perhaps," he continues, "the Bible was never more talked about, and comparatively less perused, than it is now." If this be true,-and that it is true, painful facts force themselves upon us, to demonstrate-every attempt that may be made, however humble in itself, to render the contents of the volume of Inspiration more attractive, and better known, will, by every lover of the Word of God, and well-wisher of his fellow-men, be hailed with undissembled pleasure. And so far as such attempts shall be successful, will be, of necessity, the advantages derived by the community at large. With philantrophic zeal, flowing from such impression, the learned and the pious of former ages, laboured and toiled; and they being dead,-raised to the enjoyment of an unending rest, -yet speak unto us by their voluminous productions; while not a few in the present day, have, by indefatigable industry, added to those valuable stores of sacred literature, with which we were already enriched by ancient authors.
