PEACE and UNION.

Be ye at Peace among yourselves; and follow after the Things which make for Peace; fhewing all Meekness unto all Men.

Study to be quiet, and to do your own Bufinefs; and if it be poffible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all Men.

m Seek the Peace of the City, and the Welfare of the People whereunto ye belong; for in the Peace thereof ye shall have Peace.

n One is your Mafter, even Chrift, and all ye are Brethren; therefore have Peace one with another.

• Be ye all of one Mind; endeavouring to keep the Unity of the Spirit in the Bond of Peace. For there is one Lord, one Faith, one Baptifm, one God and Father of all; and ye are one Body in Chrift, and every one Members one of another. There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither Bond nor Free; there is neither Male nor Female; for ye are all one in Chrift Jefus.

P If there be therefore any Confolation in Chrift, if any Comfort of Love, if any Fellowfhip of the Spirit, if any Bowels and Mercies, be ye like-minded, having the fame Love, being of one Accord, of one Mind, of one Heart, and of one Soul.

I beseech you, Brethren, by the Name of our Lord Jefus Chrift, that ye all speak the fame Thing, and that there be no Divifions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the fame Mind, and in the fame Judgment.

The God of Patience and Confolation grant you to be like minded one towards another, according to Chrift Jefus; that ye may with one Mind and one Mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us walk by the fame Rule, let us mind the fame Thing.

Let us ftand faft in one Spirit, with one Mind, ftriving together for the Faith of the Gofpel.

"Let all Bitternefs, and Wrath, and Anger, and Clamour, and Evil-fpeaking, be put away from you, with all Malice.

w Wrath is cruel, and Anger is outrageous; but who is able to ftand before Envy?

Let us not be defirous of Vain-glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

y Foolish and unlearned Questions avoid, knowing that they do gender Strifes. And the Servants of the Lord muft not ftrive, but be gentle unto all Men.

2 Strive not with a Man without Caufe; if he have done thee no Harm.

"Go not forth haftily to ftrive, left thou know not what to do in the End thereof, when thy Neighbour have put thee to Shame.

b Debate thy Caufe with thy Neighbour himfelf, and difcover not a Secret to another; left he that heareth it put thee to Shame, and thine Infamy turn not away.

The Beginning of Strife is as when one letteth out Water; therefore leave off Contention before it be meddled with.

As Coals are to burning Coals, and Wood to Fire, fo is a contentious Man to kindle Strife. • Thou shalt not go up and down as a Talebearer among thy People.

f Where no Wood is there the Fire goeth out, fo where there is no Tale-bearer, the Strife ceafeth. For a Tale-bearer revealeth Secrets, and a Whisperer separateth Friends; but he that is of a faithful Spirit concealeth the Matter.

Only by Pride cometh Contention; but with 'the well-advised is Wisdom.

Caft out the Scorner, and Contention fhall go out; yea, Strife and Reproach fhall cease. For fcornful Men bring a City into a Snare; but wife Men turn away Wrath."

From whence come Wars and Fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your Lufts that war in your Members?

* He loveth Tranfgreffion that loveth Strife.

It is an Honour for a Man to cease from Strife, but every Fool will be meddling.

k Prov.

The

The Lot caufeth Contention to ceafe, and parteth between the Mighty.

n Whereas there is among you Envying, and Strife, and Divifions; Are ye not carnal, and walk as Men? For while one faith, I am of Paul, and another, I am of Apollos, and I of Cephas, and I of Chrift: Are ye not carnal? Is Chrift divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the Name of Paul? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but Minifters by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every Man?

If ye have bitter Envying and Strife in your Hearts, glory not: For this Wisdom defcendeth not from above, but is earthly, fenfual, devilish; but the Wisdom that is from above is peaceable, gentle, and eafy to be intreated.

P There must be Herefies and Divisions among you; that they which are approved may be made manifeft. But wo unto them through whom these Offences come.

He that will love Life, and fee good Days, let him feek Peace, and enfue it.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for Brethren to dwell together in Unity!

• Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

t

Every Kingdom divided against itself is brought to Defolation: And every City or House divided against itfelf fhall not ftand.

u If ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not confumed one of another. For where Envying and Strife is, there is Confufion ånd every evil Work.

w Whosoever is angry with his Brother without a Cause, shall be in Danger of the Judgment.

* Bleffed are the Peace-makers, for they shall be called the Children of God. But him that foweth Discord among Brethren, the Lord hateth.

JUSTICE.

In GENERAL.

Thus faith the Lord, Execute ye Judgment and Righteousnefs. That which is altogether juft fhalt thou follow.

All Things whatfoever ye would that Men fhould do to you, do you even fo to them; for this is the Law and the Prophets.

a Render to all their Dues: Tribute to whom Tribute is due, Custom to whom Cuftom, Fear to whom Fear, Honour to whom Honour.

Ye must be faithful in all Things. In all your Labours let none Iniquity be found in you.

He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful alfo in much; and he that is unjust in the leaft, is unjuft alfo in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous Mammon, who will commit to your Truft the true Riches?
