The Gospel. S. John 16. 16. Efus said unto his disciples, A little while and ye shall

not see me; and again, A little while and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. Then said some of his disciples among themselves," What is this that he faith unto us. A little while and ye shall not see me;and again, A little while and ye shall fee me;and, Because I go to the Father ? They said therefore, What is this that he faith, A little while?" we cannot tell what he faith. NON Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and faid unto them, Do ye enquire among your selves, of that I fad, A little while and ye shall not fee me; And again, A little while and ye shall see me? Verily, verily ì fay unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world ball rejoyce: and ye shall be forrowful, but your forçõw shall be turned into joy.A woman when he is in travail, hath forrow because her hour is come:but alsoon as she is delivered of the child; she remembreth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have forrow : but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoyce, and your joy no man taketh

from you.

his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, flow to speak;flow to wrath; for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and fuperfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

The Gospel: S. John 16.5:
Esus said unto his disciples, Now I go my way to him

that fent me, and none of you as eth me, Whither goeft thou? But because I have said these things unto you, forrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is expedient for you that I go away : for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; But if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come; he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness and of judgement: Offin; because they believe not on me: Of righteousness; because I go unto my Father; and ye fee me no more : Of judgment; because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, and he will things to come. He shall glorifie me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall New it unto you. All things that the Father hath, are mine : therefore faid Ithat he shall take of mine, and shall shew

it unto yours

to us thy humble servants that by thy holy inspiration we may think those things that be good, and by

thy merciful guiding may perform the same, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Epistle. S. James 1, 22.
E doers, of the word, and not hearers only, de-

ceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer,he is like unto a man behold. ing his natural face in a glass

. For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein; he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but de

ceiveth his own heart this mans religion is vain.Pure religion, and undefiled before God and the Father, is this ; To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

The Gospel, S. John 16. 23.
Erily, verily, I lay unto you, Whatsoever ye

shall ask the Father in my Name , he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my Name: Ask and ve shall receive that your joy may be full. These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs : the time cometh when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I Shall shew you plainly of the Father. At that day ye shall ask in my Name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you; For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me and have believed that I came

, out from God. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world : Again, I leave the world and go to the Father. His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly and speakest no proverb. Now are we sure that thou knowest all things and needest not that any man should ask thee : by this we believe that thou camest forth from God: Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? Behold, the hour cometh , yea is now come, that ye shall be scattered everyman to his own,and

Tall leave me alone : and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These things I have spoken unto

you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye 5 shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer,I have overRcome the world.

The Ascension-day,

The Colleet.
Rant,we beseech thee, Almighty God, that like as

, , V we do believe thy only begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into the heavens; so we may also in heart and mind thither ascend, and with him continually dwell, who liveth and reigneth with thee, and the holy Ghost, one God world without end. Amen.

For the Epistle. Acts 1.1. THe former treatise have I made, o Theophilus, the day in which he was taken up after that he through the holy Ghost had given commandments unto the Apoftles whom he had chosen. To whom also he shewed himself aliveafter his passion,by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, faith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water but ye shall be baptized with the holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power after that the holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesles unto me, both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost par

of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they behéld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their right. And while they looked itedfastly toward heaven, as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which allo faid, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This fame Jesus which is taken up from you into heaven, shall fo come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

The Gospel. S. Mark 16:140 wrist...? Jefus appeared unto the eleven as they fat at meat,

and heart, because they believed not thein which had seen him after he was risen." And he said unto them, Goye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized, fhall be saved : but he that believeth not, Phall be damned. And these signs fhall follow them that believe: In my name shall tlięy cast out devils, they shalt speak with many deadly they shall take up serpents and if they drifika thing, it shall not hurt them, they shall fay hands on the sick

and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had Spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and far on the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confrming the word with signs following.
