180. Are there any damnable heresies and errors?

181. Are heresies and errors designed and adapted to try mankind?

Dt. 13. 1. If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods. Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you.

183. Do any persons have spurious faith?

Ac. 8. 13. Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. 21. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter; for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

184. Is a cordial belief in Christ and his gospel essential to salvation?

186. What are the effects of true faith?

Heb. 11. 32. The time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jepthæ, and of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
