WOE to them that are at eafe in Zion, and truft in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the houfe of Ifrael came !

The judgment of the grasshoppers, and of the fire, are diverted by the prayer of Amos. 10 Amaziah's judgment. THUS hath the Lord GOD fhewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grafshoppers in the beginning of the fhooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

2 And it came to pafs, that when they had made an end of eating the grafs of the land, then I faid, O Lord GOD, forgive, I befeech thee: By whom shall Jacob arife? for he is small.

3 The LORD repented for this: It fhall not be, faith the LORD.

4 Thus hath the Lord GOD fhewed unto me and, behold, the Lord GoD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

5 Then faid I, O Lord GOD, cease, I befeech thee: By whom thall Jacob arife? for he is fmall.

6 The LORD repented for this: This alfo fhall not be, faith the Lord GOD.

7 Thus he fhewed me: and, behold, the LORD ftood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand. 8 And the LORD faid unto me, Amos, What feeft thou? And I faid, A plumbline. I SAW the LORD ftanding upon the

THEN Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

CHAP. III.

Jonah, fent again, preacheth to the Nin evites. 5 Upon ibeir repentance, 10 Gad repenterb.

AND the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the fecond time, faying,

2 Arife, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching

5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a faft, and put on fackcloth, from the greateft of them even to the leaft of them.

Jonab's repining reproved. 715 try? Therefore I fied before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, flow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteft thee of the evil.

3 Therefore, now, O LORD, take I befeech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

CHAP. IV.

1 Fonab repining at God's mercy, & is reproved by the type of a gourd. BUT it difpleafed Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.

8 And it came to pafs, when the fun did arife, that God prepared a vehement eaft wind; and the fun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and faid, I is better for me to die than to live.

9 AndGod faid to Jonah, Doeft thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he faid, do well to be angry, even unto death.

10 Then faid the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hait not laboured, neither madeft it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
