CHAP. XXXIII.

12 And when he was in affliction, he befought the LORD his God, and humbled himfelf greatly before the God of his fathers,

13 And prayed unto him: and he was entreated of him, and heard his fupplicaMa-tion, and brought him again to Jerufalem into his kingdom. Then Manaffeh knew that the LORD he was God.

2 But did that which was evil in the fight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had caft out before the children of Ifrael.

8 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the hoft of heaven, and ferved them.

4 Alfo he built altars in the houfe of the LORD, whereof the LORD had faid, In Jerufalem thall my name be forever.

5 And he built altars for all the hoft of heaven in the two courts of the houfe of

the LORD.

15 And he took away the ftrange gods, and the idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the houfe of the LORD, and in Jerufalem, and caft them out of the city.

16 And he repaired the altarof the LORD, and facrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to ferve the LORD God of Ifrael.

17 Nevertheless, the people did facrifice fill in the high places, yer unto the LORD their God only.

18 Now the reft of the acts of Manassch, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the feers that fpake to him in the name of the LORD God of Ifrael, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Ifrael.

6 And he caufed his children to pafs through the fire in the valley of the fon of Hinnom alfo he obferved times, and used 19 His prayer alfo, and how God was enchantments, and ufed witchcraft, and entreated of him, and all his fins, and his dealt with a familiar fpirit and with wiz-trefpafs, and the places wherein he built ards: he wrought much evil in the fight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. 7 And he fet a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the houfe of God, of which Gud had faid to David and to Solomon his fon, In this houfe, and in Jerufalem, which I have chofen before all the tribes of Ifrael, will I put my name for ever:

high places, and fet up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the fayings of the feers.

20 So Manaffeh flept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own houfe: and Amon his fon reigned in his ftead.

21 Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned two years in Jerufalem.

8 Neither will I any more remove the foot of Ifrael from out of the land which 22 But he did that which was evil in I have appointed for your fathers; fo the fight of the LORD, as did Manaffeh that they will take heed to do all that I his father: for Amon facrificed unto all have commanded them, according to the the carved images which Manalleh his whole law and the ftatutes and the ordi-father had made, and ferved them: nances by the hand of Mofes.

9 So Manaffeh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerufalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had deftroyed before the children of Ifrael.

23 And humbled not himfelt before the LORD, as Manaffeh his father had humbled himfelf; but Amon trefpaffed more and more.

24 And his fervants confpired against him, and flew him in his own houfe. 25 ¶ But

2 And he did that which was right in the fight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

SFor in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerufalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.

4 And they brake down the altars of Baalim in his prefence; and the images that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces, and made duft of them, and ftrowed it upon the graves of them that had facrificed unto them.

5 And he burned the bones of the priests upon their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerafalem.

7 And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Ifrael, he returned to Jerufalem.

14 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the houfe of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Mofes.

15 And Hilkiah anfwered and faid to Shaphan the fcribe, I have found the book of the law in the houfe of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

16 And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, faying, All that was cqmmitted to thy fervants, they do it.

17 And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overfeers, and to the hand of the workmen.

18 Then Shaphan the fcribe told the king, faying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it be fore the king.

19 And it came to pafs, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.

20 And the king commanded Hilkiah and Ahikam the fon of Shaphan, and Abdon the fon of Micah, and Shaphan the fcribe, and Afaiah a fervant of the king's, faying,.

So they brought the king word again.

29 Then the king fent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerufalem.

30 And the king went up into the houfe of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerufalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and fmall: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.

31 And the king ftood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his teftimonies, and his ftatutes, with all his heart, and with all his foul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book. 32 And he caufed all that were prefent in Jerufalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerufalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

7 And Jofiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all for the paffover offerings, for all that were prefent, to the number of thirty thoufand; and three thoufand bullocks: thefe were of the king's fubftance.

8 And his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites: Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel rulers of the house of God, gave unto the priests for the paffover offerings twa thousand and fix hundred small cattle, and three hundred oxen.

9 Conaniah alfo, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hafhabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites for paffover offerings five thousand fmall cattle, and five hundred oxen.

10 So the service was prepared, and the priests ftood in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king's commandment.
