Mar. And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man:

But go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing

Those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

Mar. And he went out, and began to publish it much, and

to blaze abroad the matter.

and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
Mar. Insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into

And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed,

Mar. And they came to him from every quarter. They rame to him even in the wilderness.

Sect. 31. In crossing the lake, Jesus makes a storm at sea to cease by miracle.

Mat. Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side. And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said unto him, Fol low me, and let the dead bury their dead.

N. B. Here Mark iv. 35. to v. 22. comes in between tha 1st and 2d chapters of Mark, and Luke viii. 22. to verse 41. comes in between verses 16, and 17. of this bie 5th chapter.

Mat. And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples

followed him.

8 22 Luke Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples.

Luke And he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake;

And they launched forth.

Mar. And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

And when they sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship.

Mar. And there were also with him other little ships. 23 Luke But as they sailed, he fell asleep:

And there came down a storm of wind on the lake,

And they were filled with water, and they were in jeopardy.

And there arose a great storm of wind,

And the waves beat into the ship, so that
it was now full;

And he was in the hinder part of the ship asleep on
Ja pillow.

And behold there arose a great tempest in the

sea,

Insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves;

But he was asleep.

Mat. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying,
Lord, save us, we perish.

Mar. And they awake him, and say unto him,

Master, carest thou not that we perish? 24 Lake And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish.

Mat. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye
of little faith?

Mat. Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea;
And there was a great calm.

Mar. And he arose and rebuked the wind, and said unto
the sea, Peace, be still;

And the wind ceased, and there was a calm. Luke Then he arose, and rebuked the wind, and the raging of the water;

And they ceased, and there was a calm.

25 Luke And he said unto them,

Where is your faith?

Mar. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful?
How is it that ye have no faith?

Mar. And they reared exceedingly, and said one to anos
ther,

What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

Luke And they being afraid, wondered, saying one to ano

ther,

What manner of man is this? for he command.

Mat. But the men marvelled, saying,

What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?

Sect. 32. The demoniacs of Gadara are cured.

26 Luke And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, Which is over against Galilee.

Mar.

And they came over to the other side of the sea, Into the country of the Gadarenes.

27 Luke And when he went forth to land, there met him out

of the city,

A certain man which had devils long time, and ware no clothes,

Neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

Mar. And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs,

A man with an unclean spirit,

Who had his dwelling among the tombs.
Mat. And when he was come to the other side, into the
country of the Gergesenes, there met him
Two possessed with devils,

Coming out of the tombs,

Mat. Exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that

way.

Mar. And no man could bind him, no, not with chains; because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces; neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. See Luke,

ver. 29.

Mar. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, and cried with a loud voice, and said,

What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son

of the most high God?

I adjure thee by God, that thou torment

me not.

28 Luke When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said,

What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high?

I beseech thee torment me not.

Mat. And behold they cried out, saying,

What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou
Son of God?

Art thou come hither to torment us before
the time?

29 Luke For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man.)

Mar. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou inclean spirit.)

Luke For oftentimes it had caught him; and he was kept bound with chains, and in fetters; and he orake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.). See Mark, ver. 3, 4, 5.

30 Luke And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? and he said,

Legion, because many devils were entered into him.

Mar. And he asked him, what is thy name? and he answered, saying,

My name is Legion, for we are many.

Mar. And he be sought him much,

That he would not send them away out of the

country.

That he would not command them to go out

32 Luke And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain,

And they besought him, that he would suffer them to enter into them.

Mar. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of many swine, feeding.

And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. Mat. And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine, feeding.

So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.

Mat. And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they entered into the herd of swine:

And, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.

Mar. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave; and the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine:

And the herd ran violently down a steep place

into the sea, (they were about two thousand), and were choaked in the sea.

33 Luke And he suffered them. Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine:

And the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choaked.

34 Luke When they that fed them saw what was done, they filed,

And went and told it in the city and in the country.

Mar. And they that fed the swine fled,

And told it in the city and in the country. Mat. And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city,

And told every thing, and what was befallen to
the possessed of the devils.

Mat. And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus.
It seems he was going into the town.

Mar. And they went out to see what it was that was done. 35 Luke Then they went out to see what was done.

Luke And came to Jesus, and found the man out of whom the devils were departed,

Sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind;

And they were afraid.

Mar. And they come to Jesus, and see him that was pos-
sessed with the devils, and had the legion,

Sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind:
And they were afraid.

36 Luke They also which saw it told them

By what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed,

Mar. And they that saw it told them

How it befel to him that was possessed with the devil,

And also concerning the swine.

Mar. And they began to pray him to depart out of their

coasts.

Mat. And when they saw him, they besought him that
The would depart out of their coasts.

8 37 Luke Then the whole multitude of the country of the
Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from
them; for they were taken with great fear.

Luke And he went up into the ship, and returned back
Jagain.

38 Luke Now the man out of whom the devils were departed,
Besought him that he might be with him.
Mar. And when he was come into the ship, he that had
been possessed with the devil,

Prayed him that he might be with him.

Mar. Howbert, Jesus suffered him not; but saith to him,
Go home to thy friends,

And tell them how great things the Lord hath
done for thee,

And hath had compassion on thee.

39 Luke But Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to thine own house,

And shew how great things God hath done unto thee,

Luke And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city,

How great things Jesus had done unto him. Mar. And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis How great things Jesus had done for him,

Mar. And all men did marvel.

Mat. And he entered into a ship, and passed over.
Mar. And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto
the other side,

Much people gathered unto him, and he was
nigh unto the sea.

40 Luke And it came to pass, that when Jesus was returned, The people gladly received him, for they were all waiting for him.

Sect. 33. Jesus cures a paralytic in Capernaum.
N. B. This is told by Mark and Luke in its true order,

as appears from Matthew.

Mat. And (Jesus) came into his own city.

Mar. And again he entered into, Capernaum after some
Jays.

Mar. And it was noised that he was in the house. And

straightway many were gathered together, insomuch

that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door.

Mar. And he preached the word unto them.
