Mark The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God, was, as it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. Luke Now, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Frachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abiene, Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins; As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight. 6 John There was a man sent from God, whose name 1 was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all men through him might believe. Mat. Jesus is baptized. The Holy Spirit descends on Mat. John, to be baptized of him. But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering, said unto him, Suffer it to be so now, for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteous ness. Then he suffered him. Mar., And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, And was baptized of John in Jordan. Mar. And straightway coming up out of the water, And lo, the heavens were opened unto Descending like a dove, and lighting upon him.
