than our heart, and knoweth all things. Rom. viii. 1, There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flefl, but after the Spirit. v. 33, 34, Who fhall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that juftifieth: who is he that condemneth? It is Chrift that died, yea, rather that is rifen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who alfo maketh interceffion for us.

w The life of fin is our death. 1 Tim. v. 6, But fhe that liveth in pleasure is dead while fhe liveth. The death of Chrift our life. 2 Cor. v. 14, 15, For the love of Chrift conftraineth us, because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead and that he died for all, that they which live, fhould not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rofe again.

SECT. VI. The mystery of free juftification through Chrift's obedience and fatisfaction.

No creature ever could or will
For fin yield fatisfaction full ;a
Yet juftice from the creature's hand
Both fought and got its full demand.b

Hence though I am, as well I know,
A debtor, c yet I nothing owe.d

For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would not be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

forbid. But fin, that it might appear fin, working death in me by that which is good; that fin by the commandment might become exceeding finful.

Rom. iii. 20, Therefore by the deeds of the law, there fhall no flefl be justified in his fight: for by the law is the knowledge of fin. Gal. ii. 16, Knowing that a man is not juftified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jefus Chrift; that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law fhall no flesh be justified. Chap. iii. 11, But that no man is juftified by the law in the fight of God, it is evident; for, the just shall live by faith.

Rom. viii. 1, There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Chrift Jefus. v. 3, 4, For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God fending his own Son in the likeness of finful fefh, and for fin, condemned fin in the flesh; that the rightecufnefs of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 Cor. v. 21, For he hath made him to be fin for us, who knew no fin; that we might be made the righteoufnefs of God in him. declare, I fay, at this time his righteoufnefs; that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jefus.

s Rom. vi. 14, Sin fhall not have dominion over you; før ye are not under the law, but under grace. Gal. v. 1-4, Stand fast therefore in the liberty where with Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Behold I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcifed, Chrift fhall profit you nothing. For I teftify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Chrift is become of no effect unto you, whofoever of you are justified by the law ; ye are fallen from grace.

Rom. vi. 1, 2, What fhall we fay then? fhall we continue in fin, that grace may abound? God forbid; how shall we that are dead to fin, live any longer therein? v. 15, What then? shall we fin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

u Rom. v. 17, 18, 19, They which receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteoufnefs, fhall reign in life by one, Jefus Chrift. By the righteoufnefs of one, the free gift came upon all men to juftification of life. By the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

v Rom. x. 5-9, For Mofes defcribeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doth these things, shall live by them. But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this. wife, Say not in thine heart, Who fhall afcend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above ;) or who shall defcend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Chrift again from the dead;) but what faith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart; that is, the word of faith which we preach, That if thou fhalt confefs with thy mouth the Lord Jefus, and fhalt believe in thine heart, that God hath raised him from the dead, thou. fhalt be faved.
