This work is a supplement to the 10-volume series "Early Responses to Hume", which is an edited and annotated collection of eighteenth-and nineteenth-century critical reactions to Scottish philosopher David Hume (1711-1776) . Both a philosopher and historian, he was infamous in his day for his skeptical views on human nature, knowledge, metaphysics, and religion. 

About the author (2021)

James Fieser is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He received his B.A. from Berea College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from Purdue University. He is author, co-author or editor of academic books on ethics, David Hume, the history of philosophy, and the introduction to philosophy. He is the founder and general editor of the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy web site (www.iep.utm.edu).
