Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fi-tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering, said unto him, Lord, let it aloue this year als, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear fruit, well; and if not, then after that

thou shalt cut it down.

Then the mister of the house, being angry, said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet

there is room. And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

It was meet that we should make merry, and be glid: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

PRODIGAL SON.

Luke xv, 11-32. And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself

to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed

swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no

I will ari-e, and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against Heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against Heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy

son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; be was lost, and is found. And they elder son was in the field: and as began to be merry. Now his he came and drew nigh to the

And he was angry, came his father out, and entreated him. Then the steward said

within himself. What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. I am resolv ed what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.

So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him. Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fitty. Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of Wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

RICH AND Poon.

Luke xvi 19-31. There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and tine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at ing to be fed with the crumbs his gate full of sores. And desirwhich fell from the rich man's table; moreover the dogs came aud licked his sores.. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in toroff, and Lazarus in his bosom. And ments, and seeth Abraham afar he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy litetime receivedst thy good things: and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted and thou art tormented. And beside all

this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he sold unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.

Ezek. xxxi, 2--13. Son of man, Speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his multi ude, Whom art thou like in thy greatness? Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fur branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs. The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field. Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long, because of the multitude of waters, when he shot

And he said unto bim, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds, And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layest not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. PHARISEE AND PUBLICAN.

Luke xvii, 9--14. And he spoke this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing atar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abused; and he that humbleth himself shall be

exalted.

TEN POUNDS.

Luke xix, 12 24. He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered themten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him saying, We will not have this man to reign over

Ing that I did not sow. Where-
fore then gavest not thou my
money into the bank, that at my
coming I might have required

said unto them that stood by,

All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations. was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters. The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir-trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut-trees were not like his branches: nor any tree in the Luke xxi, 29--32. And he spake garden of God was like unto him to them a parable; Behold the flg-in his beauty. I have made him tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away till all be fulfilled.

VERNAL TREES.

SHEPHERD.

John x, 1-5, 12, 13. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheep-fold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth:

fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him. Therefore thus saith the Lord Gon, Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him And out for his wickedness. strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and. in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his bongs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him. Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches.

2 Kings xiii, 14-19. Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness

his feet were as the feet of a bear,
and his mouth as the mouth of a

RAZOR.

Ezek. v, 1, 3--5. And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp knife, take thee a barber's razor, and cause it to pass upon thine head and upon thy beard: then take thee balances to weigh, and divide the hair. Thou shalt also take thereof a few in number, and bind them in thy skirts. Then take of them again, and cast them into the midst of the 'fire, and burn them in the fire; for thereof shall a fire come forth into all the house of Israel. Thus saith the Lord God, This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her.

Zech. vi, 4-8. Then I answered

and said unto me, These are the
four spirits of the heavens, which

the grisled go forth toward the

So they walked to and fro through

he said unto me, Lo, I have given

REGAL CROWNS.

Zech. vi, 10, 11. Take of them of the captivity, eren of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah; Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest.

EPHAHI.

Zech. v,5--10. Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth. And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said, moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth. And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah. And he said, This is Wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof. Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind tcas in their wings; (for they had wings like the wings of a stork;) and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven. Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephali?

FLYING BOOK.

Zech. v, 1, 2. Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, a flying roll. And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.

RIPE FRUIT.

Jer. xxiv, 1-3. The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah

the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Ju lah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and bad brought them to Babylon. One basket had very good flys, even like the 15s that are first ripe; and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad. Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

Amos viii, 1. 2. Thus hath the Lord GoD shewed unto me; and behold a basket of summer-fruit. And hesaid, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summerfruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

CONFINED POSTURE. Ezek. iv, 4--8. Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it; according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquity. For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel. And when thou hast accomplished them, lle again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Junah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year. Therefore thou shalt set thy face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and thine arm shall be uncovered, and thou shalt prophesy against it. And, behold, I will lay bands upon thee, and thou shalt not turn thee from one side to another, till thou hast ended the days of thy siege.

GIRDLE.

Jer. xi, 1-7. Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go, and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. So I got a girdle, according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins. And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock. So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD command

ed me. And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid

it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

HORNS AND CARPENTERS.

Zech. 1, 18-20. Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. And the LORD shewed me four carpenters.

Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be. And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth. And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

SUBMERSION.

Jer. xliii, 9. Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the brick-kiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah.

Jer. 11, 61-64. And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words, Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever. And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates: And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her, and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

Rev. xvill, 21. And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

NAKED PROPHET.

Isa. xx, 3, 4. And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three

years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia; So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

PLUMB-LINE.

Amos vii. 7. 8. Thus he showed me; and, behold, the LORD stood upon a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand. And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumb-line. Then said the LORD, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel, I will not again pass by them any more.

REMOVING FURNITURE.

Ezek. xii, 3-5. Therefore, thou son of man, prepare thee stuff for removing, and remove by day in their sight; and thou shalt remove from thy place to another place in their sight: it may be they will consider, though they be a rebellious house. Then shalt thou bring forth thy stuff by day in their sight, as stuff for removing: and thou shalt go forth at even in their sight, as they that go forth into captivity. Dig thou through the wall in their sight, and carry out thereby.

Zech. xi, 7, 10, 11, 14. And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock. And I took my staff, eren Beauty, and cut it asunder, tliat I might

break my covenant which I had made with all the people. And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD. Then I cut asunder mine other staff, cren Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

VINE TREE.

Ezekiel xv, 2--5. Son of man, What is the vine-tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest? Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon? Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burnt. Is it meet for any work? Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?

Ezek. xix, 10-14. Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful, and full of branches, by reason of many waters. And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches. But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit; her strong rods were broken and withered, the fire consumed them. And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground. And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamenta

Jer. xxv, 15-17. For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto me; Take the wine-cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. Then took I the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent mo.

SCENES.
PRESENCE OF SATAN.

Job 1, 6-12. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present then selves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down' in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land: But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD s id unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

Ezek. xxxii, 1--6. And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a whale in the seas; and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers. Thus saith the Lord Gop, I will therefore spread out my net over thee with a company of many people; and they shall bring thee up in Job ii, 3-7. And the LORD said my net. Then will I leave thee unto Satan, Hast thou considered upon the land, I will cast thee my servant Job, that there is none forth upon the open field, and will like him in the earth, a perfect cause all the fowls of the heaven and an upright man, one that to remain upon thee, and I will fill feareth God, and escheweth evil? the beasts of the whole earth with and still he holdeth fast his inthee. And I will lay thy feshtegrity, although thou movedst

me against him, to destroy him without cause. And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin; yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life: But put forth thine hand, now,and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

HEAVEN IN COUNCIL.

1 Kings xxii, 15-21. So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king. And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD? And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd; and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in peace. And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil? And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD:

saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand, and on his left. And the LORD said, Who shall per-uade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at And one said on Ramoth-gilead? this manner, and another said on that manner. And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.

JOSHUA AND SATAN.

Zech. iii, 1, 3-5. And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, take away the filthy garments" from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with gar ments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
