in their time anointed the Sick with Oil, were all endued with the miraculous Gift of Healing ; but the Popish Priests have no fuch Gift. And fince they have not the Gift of Healing, 'tis a Vanity for them to use the Ceremony of Anointing.

AGAIN, the Apostles anointed the Sick to cure them of their bodily Diseases for Confirmation of the Gofpel: And as many as they anointed recovered their Health. But the Papifts ufe Oil as a Sign of fpiritual Grace, and anoint the Sick to cleanse their Souls from the Guilt and Reliques of Sin, and not to restore their bodily Health. For they anoint only fuch as are unlikely to recover; and not one among many receiveth Health after their Anointing.

AND from hence it is evident, that the Popish Ceremony of Anointing the Sick with Oil, hath nothing common with that Anointing, which the Apostles used. And confequently the Apostles Practice herein cannot justifie the Popish Extream Unction. And fince the Gift of Healing by Miracle is ceafed in the Church, 'tis fit that the Ceremony of Anointing, which formerly accompanied that Gift, fhould cease too. And if it be continued, it hath no vertue to heal the Body, and much lefs to cleanfe the Soul.

The

The CONCLUSION.

ND thus, according to my propof-d Method, I have clearly explained neceffary Matters of Faith, as wel

a

tural as Revealed. And both thefe are neceffary to be acknowledged by all to whom they have been made manifeft. For 'tis not fufficient for fuch as know the Will of God, to approve the Natural Religion, if they reject the Revealed. But we are bound to receive all for Truth, which we are perfwaded came from God.

And fince the Articles of Faith were revealed by God, we are no lefs obliged to believe them, than the Principles of Reafon. And unlefs we embrace the entire Faith, what will it avail to hold part thercof? 'Tis not enough to own all Matters of Religion, which may be known by the Light of Nature; but we are as much required to affent to all Truths delivered in the Gospel. And 'tis no lefs neceffary to believe both the Divinity and Incarnation of Chrift, and our Redemption by him, which depend on Divine Revelation, than to believe the Being of God, and his infinite Perfections, which may be proved by Reafon. For what God hath revealed is infallibly true; and we may be as certain of the Truth of it, as if we could demonftrate the fame by Reason; becaufe God, who revealed it,

is

is Truth it felf, and cannot be deceived himself, nor will he deceive those that truft in him. And from God's Revelation it is evident, that Chrift is the main Foundation of Religion, and that there is no other Way to be faved but through his Merits. And therefore, without Faith in Christ, the best Improvement of Natural Religion is not fufficient to qualifie us for Salvation. But there is a Neceffity for us to believe and do what

od requires in the Law of Grace, as well as of fe ture, if we expect to be accepted with him, and rewarded.
