thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. 21 For behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

CHAP. XXX. Judah threatened.

Wo to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin. 12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon: 13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant. 15 For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest shall ye be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength; and ye would not. 18 And therefore will the Lord wait that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment; blessed are all they that wait for him.

20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: 21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. 23 Then shall he give the rain of thy seed that thou shalt sow the ground withal, and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures. 25 And there shall be upon every high mountain,

and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters. 26 Moreover, the light of the moon shall Be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be seven-fold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the Lord bindeth up his people, and healeth their wound. 27 Behold the name of the Lord cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: 30 And the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hail stones. 33 For Tophet is ordained of old: yea, for the king it is prepared, he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

CHAP. XXXII. Blessings promised.

BEHOLD, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. 2 And a man sl all be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest: as rivers of water in a di 'y place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary la nd. 8 The liberal deviseth liberal things, and by liberal things shall he stand. 13 Upon the land off my people shall come up thorns; 15 Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. 16 Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field. 17 And the work of right

e ousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteous n ess, quietness and assurance for ever. 18 And ny people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting-places.

CHAP. XXXV. Joy in the Kingdom of Christ.

THE wilderness, and the solitary place, shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. 4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not; behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you. 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped: 6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. 8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called, The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those : the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. 10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs, and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

CHAP. XXXVII. Destruction of the Assyrians.

21 THEN Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria: 22 This is the word which the Lord hath spoken concerning him, The daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn. 23 Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the holy One of Israel. Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears: therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest. 35 For I will defend this city to save it,

for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. 36 Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand and in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

CHAP. XXXVIII. Hezekiah's Life prolonged.

IN those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, 3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth, and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight and Hezekiah wept sore. 4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city. 7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken: 8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness. 16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness; but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption for thou hast cast all my sins behind

thy back. 18 For the grave cannot prais e thee; death cannot celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as i do this day; the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

CHAP. XL. Glory of Jehovah,

12 WHO hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountain s in scales, and the hills in a balance? 15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are cou nted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he: taketh up the isles as a very little thing. 16 Arid Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering. 18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? 26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names, by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth. 28 Hast thou not known, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

CHAP. XLI. Vanity of Idols.

KEEP silence before me, O islands, and let the people come near, then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment. 4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning?
