CHAP. XXIII.

1 Christ admonisheth the people to follow the good doctrine, not the evil examples, of the Scribes and Pharisees: 5 His disciples must beware of their ambition: 13 He denounceth eight woes against their hypocrisy and blindness: 34 and prophesieth of the destruction of Jerusalem.

THEN spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

2 Saying, "The Scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

high. To which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? do. viii. 1: We have such an high-priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. do. x. 12, 13: This man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins, for ever sat down on the right hand of God. From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. do. xii. 2: Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 1 PET. iii. 22: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels, and authorities, and powers, being made subject unto him.
