gregation, except that which is my dear peculiar charge. On twenty-two solemn occasions, I have assisted here, in the ministry of holy things, and joined with you in commemorating our Saviour's dying love, over the symbols of his broken body and shed blood. Nor have I ever had reason to complain of indifference or disregard. Many are the pleasing proofs I have had of your attachment, but none do I value more than your uniformly respectful attention to my feeble labours for the good of your your souls.

The bond is broken which so long united us. But our common Lord is the same to-day, yesterday, and for ever; and though you, among whom I have come preaching the kingdom of God, may see my face no more, we may still, through grace, consider ourselves as fellow members of the household of faith, and fellow travellers towards the Jerusalem that is above.--"And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to keep you from falling, and to build you up, and to give you

Regard your minister, though dead, as still speaking. He hath fallen asleep, but the word of God liveth and abideth for ever. And the divine head of the Church, with whom is the residue of the spirit, can provide for you by raising up a pastor after his own heart,---one faithful to the charge of souls,---one that may not need to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth. - For one of this description, let your prayers ascend to the throne of grace; and may he whom the father heareth always, present them, and obtain, through his own merits, an answer of peace! Beware of blind attachment to human instruments, or implicit trust in the means of grace. Be followers of their faith, and patience, and obedience, and ye shall follow them to the realms of bliss. "Only let your conversation be, as it becometh the gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel. Finally, brethren, farewel; be perfect, be of good comfort,be of one mind, live in peace; and, in life, at death, and through eternity, the God of love and of peace shall be with you."

INTRODUCTION.

HAVING explained all the other parts of

the New Testament, in the course of my lecturing to the parishioners of Holywood, I confidered it my duty, as a minifter of the gospel in that parish, to explain also the book of the Revelation. No part of infpired fcripture is more fully proven to belong to the facred canon than this book hath been. Thofe who defire to fee that proof may confult Sir Ifaac Newton's Obfervations on the Revelation, Lardner's Credibility of Gofpel-history, and Millii Prolegomena. This prophecy bears the strongest internal evidence, that no fubfequent prophecy fhould be neceffary in order to unfold the meaning of this one, but that it fhould be difcovered by the right use
