for our fins, and to rife again for our juftification; Grant us fo to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness, that we may alway terve thee in pureness of living and truth, through the merits of the fame thy Son Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

The Epifle. 1 John v. 4.

W WHATSOEVER is born of and this is the victory that over: cometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jefus is the Son of God! This is he that came by water and blood, even Jetus Chrift; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witnefs, becaufe. the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Fathe the Word, and the Holy Ghoft: and thefe three are one. And there are three that bear witnefs in earth, the fpirit, and the water, and the blood: and thefe three agree in one. It we receive the witnefs of men, the witnefs of God is greater: for this is the witnefs of God, which he hath teftified of his Sun. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himfelf: he that believeth not God, hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son, hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God, hath not life.

God overcometh the world:

The Gofpel. John xx. 19. HE fame day at evening, beTing the first day of the week, when the doors were thut where the difciples were affembled for fear of the Jews, came Jefus, and ftood in the midft, and faith unto

them, Peace be unto you. And when he had fo faid, he thewed unto them his hands and his fide. Then were the difciples glad when they faw the Lord. Then faid Jefus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath fent me, even fo fend 1 you. And when he had faid this, he

breathed on them, and faith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghoft. Whofe foever fins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whofe foever fins ye retain, they are retained.

HIS is thank-worthy, if a man for confcience toward God endure grief, futtering wrongfully. For what glor y is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your fauits, ye thall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and fuffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: becaufe Chrift alfo fuffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye thould follow his fieps: who did no fin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he fuffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: who his own felf bare our fins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to fins fhould live unto righteoufnefs: by whole ftripes ye were healed. For ye were as theep going aftray; but are now returned unto the Sh epherd and Bifhop of your fouls.

The Gospel. John x. 11.

ESUS faid, I am the good thepherd: the good thepherd giveth his life for the theep. Bu he that is an hireling, and not the fhepherd, whofe own the theep are not, feeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the theep, and fleeth: and the wolf catchetk them, and fcattereth the theep. The hireling fleeth, because he

an hireling, and careth not for the theep. I am the good thepherd, and know my fheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even fo know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the fheep. And other theep I have, which are not of this fold: them alfo I muft bring, and they fhali hear my voice; and there thall be one fold, and one shepherd.

The Epifle. 1 Pet. ii. 11. EARLY beloved, I befeech you as ftrangers and pilgrims, abstain from flefly fis, which war against the foul; having your converfation honeft among the Gentiles: that where

The Gospel. John xvi. 5. JESUS faid unto his difciples, Now I go my way to him that fent me; and none of you afketh me, Whither goeft thou? But because I have faid thefe things unto you, forrow hath filled your heart. Neverthelets I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if 1 depart I will fend him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of fin, and of righteoufnefs, and of judgement: Of fin, because they believe not on me; Of righteoufnefs, becaufe I go to my Father, and ye fee me no more; Of judgement, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to fay unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he thall not fpeak of himself; but whattoever he thall hear, that fhall he fpeak: and he will thew you things to come. He thall glorify me: for he thall receive of mine, and thall fhew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore faid 1, that he thall take of mine, and

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glafs: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and ftraightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But wholo looketh into the perfect law of liberty, not a forgetful hearer, but a doer and continueth therein, he being of the pork, this man thall be bleffed in his deed. If any man among you feem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. For the Epiftle. Acts i. 1. HE former treatife have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jefus began both to do and teach, until the day in which lie was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghoft had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chofen: to whom alo he thewed himfelf alive after his paffion by many infallible proofs, being feen of them forty days, and fpeaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: and, being affembled together with them, commanded them that they fhould not depart from Jerufalem, but wait for the promife of the Father, which, faith he, ye, have heard of me: for John truly baptized with water; but ye thall be baptized with the Holy Ghoft not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they atked of him, faying, Lord, wilt thou at this time rettore again the kingdom to Ifrael! And he faid unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the feafons which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye thall receive power, after that the Holy Ghoff is come upon you: and ye thall be witneties unto me both in Jerufalem, and In all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermoft part of the earth. And when he had spoken

these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their fight. And while they looked fledfalily toward heaven, as he went up, behold, two men ftood by thein in white apparel; which alfo faid, Ye men of Galilee, why ftand ye gazing up into heaven? This fame Jefus, which is taken up from you into heaven, fhail fo come in like manner as ye have feen him go into heaven."

The Gospel. Mark xvi. 14. JESUS appeared unto the eleven as they fat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardnefs of heart, becaufe they believed not them which had feen him after he was rifen. And he faid unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized fhall be faved; but he that believeth not fhall be damned. And thefe figns thall follow them that believe: In my name thall they caft out devils; they fhall fpeak with new tongues; they thall take up ferpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it fhail not hurt them; they thall lay hands on the fick, and they fhail recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and fat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every-where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with figns following.
