Gesen. My spirit shall not always predominate in man. The spirit of God appears to signify here, as Ps. civ. 30, the principle of animation in the creatures; hence the sense, I will take away from them their breath, they shall not live any longer on earth. The LXX. has for T, Karaμeivη, Vulg., permanebit, Syriac, Arabic, habitabit (perhaps after the reading it from Di, Arab. to remain). Others explain by the Arabic, med. Vau signifying, to be degraded, humbled; hence the interpretation, My spirit shall not be degraded for ever
