IN THE beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth. 1

And the Earth was without form and void; and darkness 2 was upon the fain of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

AND God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And 3,4 God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the dark- 5 ness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

And God said, Let there be a firrnament in the midst of the 6 walers, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God 7 ma le the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament, from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. 8 And the evening and the morning were the second day.

And God said, Let the waters under the Heaven be gathered 9 together into one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was 80. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering 10 together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb 11 yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And 12 the earth brought forth grass, and herh yielding seed after his kind, and ihe tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morn- 13 ing were the third day.

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the 14 Heaven, to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: and let them be 15 for lights in the firrnament of the Heaven, to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the 16 greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the siars also. And God set them in the firmanent 17 of the Heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over 18 the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and 19 the morning were the fourth day.

AND God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the 20 moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of Heaven. And God created 21

Grad said, Behold, I have given your every herb hearing 9 which is upon the face of all the carih, and every tree, in hich is the fruit of a free vielding seed; 10 you ji shall be

in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good
and evil. And a river went out of Edlen to water the garden; 10
and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth 11
the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; and the gold 12
of that land is good: there is bdtllium and the onyx slune.
And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that 13
compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the 14
third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east
of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. 'And the LORD 15

took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress
it, and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, 16
saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But 17
of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not
eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt
surely die.

And the LORD God said. It is not good that the man should 18 be alone ; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of 19 the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adarn called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adarn gave names 20 to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep 10 fall upon Adam, and 21 he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the LORD God had taken from ? man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And 23 Adam said, 'This is now bone of my bones, and Nesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall 24 cleave unto his wife : and they shall be one flesh. And they 25 were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

NOW the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the 3 field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman. Yea, hath God said, Ye shall noi eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden : but of the fruit of the 3 tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not cat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And 4 the serpent said unto the woman, Yc shall not surely die: for 5 God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and 6 that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them 7 both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And 8 they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves
