Part III. may hinder us from difcerning or practifing the Things that belong to our Peace and infpire every one of us with true Chriftian Love and Charity, with Meeknefs of Wifdom, Lowlinefs of Mind, Patience, Long-fuffering and forbearing one another in Love, that we may all henceforth be united in one holy Bond of Truth and Peace, of Faith and Charity, and may with one Heart, and one Soul, join together in promoting the Honour and Glory of thy Name, the Intereft of Religion, and the Happiness and Profperity of thefe Kingdoms; that fo thou who art the God of Peace, may be our God, and dwell among us; and that we may be thy People zealoufly devoted to thy Service and Obedi

ence.

To this End, O Lord, I befeech thee to beftow thy Bleffings fpiritual and temporal upon our most gracious Sovereign Lord King GEORGE, and all that are put in Authority under him, both in Church and State; blefs them with Wisdom from above, which is firft pure and then peaceable; and make all their Confultations effectual to the Glory of thy great Name, the Prefervation of thy Church and true Religion among us, the Honour and Safety

of

of his Majesty, the Stability of our Times, and the Security, Peace, and Profperity of all Eftates and Conditions of Men among

us.

Make all Magiftrates, and other inferior Officers faithful and confcientious in the Discharge of that Truft which thou haft reposed in them; and grant, that they being truly zealous for thy Glory, may constantly employ that Power which thou haft given them for the Punishment of Wickednefs and Vice; that fo the Sins of particular Perfons may not become National, nor, through the Connivance or Encouragement of thofe in Authority, bring down thy heavy Judgments upon us.

Be gracious, O God, to thy holy Catholic Church, especially that Part of it which thou haft planted in thefe Kingdoms; let no defign formed against it ever profper; and grant, that all who name the Name of Chrift, may depart from Iniquity, and live fuitable to their holy Profeffion.

Look down with Mercy and Pity upon the fad and mournful Eftate, of those who now fuffer for the Truth of thy Gospel, and the Teftimony of a good Confcience: Atrengthen their Faith, and animate their Courage;

Courage; and grant that no Perfecutions may ever drive them to a Denial of the Truth. Shew thy felf their mighty Deliverer, that all Men may fee it, and fay, Verily there is a God that judgeth in the Earth.

Enlighten all thofe that are in Darkness and Error, and bring them to the Light, and Knowledge, and Practice of the Truth, and grant that all the Kingdoms of the World may be turned unto the Lord, and become one Flock, under the great Shepherd and Bishop of our Souls, thy Son Jefus Chrift.

What follows may be properly added in Time of War.

Blefs and profper the great Undertaking which this Nation is now engaged in: Go forth with our Fleets and Armies; blefs them with Victory and Succefs: And fuffer not our Sins to provoke thee fo far, as to deliver us up into the Hands of our Enemies; but fend us, in thy good Time, fuch a Peace as may tend to the Glory of thy great Name, the Prefervation of thy Church and true Religion among us, and

the

the Honour, Safety, and Profperity of these Kingdoms.

Finally, O Lord, I pray thee to extend thy Mercy even to thofe that hate us, and who without any juft Caufe are our Enemies: Difappoint their Devices, and give them Repentance and better Minds; thed abroad thy Love in their Hearts, and endue them with a meek, humble, and charitable Spirit; and grant that we being delivered from the Hands of our Enemies, mav ferve thee without Fear, in Holinefs and Righteoufnefs before thee all our Days, through Jefus Chrift, our bleffed Lord and only Saviour. Amen.

A Thanksgiving and Prayer in Private on a Day fet apart by Authority for Commemorating any National Bleffing or Deliver

ance.

BLESSED and glorious God, the Creator, Governor, and Judge of the World, our Deliverer, and continual Benefactor, I acknowledge thy great Bounty and Good

nefs

Part III. nefs to these Nations, as well as to myfelf in particular.

I adore thy infinite Goodnefs, Wifdom, and Power, whereby thou fometimes pulleft down one Nation and fettest up another; and at other Times makest one Nation to be a Bleffing and Defence, or a Plague or Scourge to another, in fuch a Manner as ferves best the Interest of thy Church, and most manifefts thy Provi dence over the World, and makest thy Goodnefs, thy Justice, and thy Power, to be known to the Kingdoms of it; to the Intent they should not at any Time trust in the Arm of Flesh, nor abufe thy Bleffings and Favours; but fear and love, ferve and worfhip thee, who art a Rewarder of them that feek thee.

I render unfeigned Thanks unto thee, O moft gracious God, that though for our Sins thou haft juftly raised up Enemies, that feek our Ruin, yet thou haft not suffered them fo to prevail against us, as to accomplish their cruel Defigns; but haft hitherto afforded us Counsel and Strength to keep off all the dreadful Calamities and Miseries of War, Defolation, Distraction, and Slavery.

I thank thee for that Measure of Tran

quillity,
