Promises to faithful Ministers.

Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy ones. Deut. xxxiii. 8.

Of Levi Moses said-Bless, Lord, his substance, and accept the work of his hands; smite through the loins of them that rise up against him. Deut. xxxiii. 11.

The Lord hath chosen Zion; I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall shout aloud for joy. Psalm cxxxii. 13-16.

I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord. Jer. xxxi. 14.

Thus saith the Lord, If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; then may also my covenant be broken with the Levites the priests, my ministers. Jer. xxxiii. 20, 21.

The priests that kept my charge, when the children of Israel went astray from me; they shall come unto me, and minister unto me. Ezek. xliv. 15.

They that be wise, shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness, as the stars for ever and ever. Dan. xii. 3.

Woe unto you, ye blind guides! Matt. xxiii. 16.

The pastors have become brutish, and have not sought the Lord: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered. Jer. x. 21.

Thus saith the Lord; I will feed them with worm-wood, and make them drink the water of gall; for from the prophets is profaneness gone forth into all the land. Jer. xxiii. 15.

Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned my holy things. Therefore I poured out mine indignation upon them; their own way have I recompensed upon their heads. Ezek. xxii. 26―31.

O ye priests, ye have departed out of the way, ye have caused many to stumble at the law. Therefore have I made you contemptible before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways. Mal. ii. 8, 9.

Thy teachers have trangressed against me. Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary; I have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches. Isaiah xliii. 27, 28.

Thus saith the Lord, Woe be to the shepherds that do feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flock? Ezek.

I will raise up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart, and in my mind. 1 Sam. ii. 35.

Though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction; yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers. And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way; walk ye in it. Isa. Xxx. 20, 21.

They refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear the words which the Lord hath sent in his Spirit by the prophets: therefore came great wrath from the Lord of hosts. Zech. vii. 11.

The man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken to the priest that standeth to minister before the Lord; even that man shall die. Deut. xvii. 2.

Promises to a virtuous
Wife.

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time of need. Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates. Prov. xxxi. 10, 11, 25, 28, 31.

rents fulfilled to their
Offspring.

Thou shalt keep his statutes, that it may be well with thee, and with thy children after thee. Deut. iv. 40.

He that feareth the Lord, his seed shall inherit the earth. Psl. xxv. 12, 13.

I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging their bread. His seed is blessed. Psl. xxxvii. 25, 26.

The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be establishd before thee. Psl. cii. 28.

I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring. Isa. xliv. 3.

I will give them one heart and one way; that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them. Jer. xxxii. 39.

Threatenings against wicked Parents, executed upon their Children.

I am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. Exodus xx. 5.

I will bring a nation upon you; and they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat. Jer. v. 15.

Their sons and their daugh. ters shall die by famine. Jer. xi. 22.

Thy children shall be dashed in pieces before thine eyes. Isa. xiii. 16.

His children are far from safety, they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them. Job v. 4.

Deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword: let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows. Jer. xviii. 21.

Promises to pious Children.

Honour thy father and thy mother; that thy days may be long upon the land. Exod. xx. 12.

My son, forget not my law, and let thine heart keep my commandments; for length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let

He that curseth his father or his mother, shall surely be put to death. Exod. xxi. 17.

If a man have a stubborn and a rebellious son, that will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that when they have chastened

him, will not hearken unto them, they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice, he is a glutton and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die. Deut. xxi. 18, 20, 21.

Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say,

Amen. Deut. xxvii. 16.

The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pluck it out, and the young ravens shall eat it. Prov. xxx. 17.

Promises to pious Servants.

Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh; not with eye-service as men-pleasers, but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart: with good will, doing service as unto the Lord, and not to men; knowing that whatsoever good any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. Ephes. vi. 5-8.

Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Matt. xxv. 21.

Threatenings against those that are Wicked.

If that servant say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the men-servants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; the Lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. Luke xii. 45, 46.

Cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matt. xxv. 30.
