ever. Unto the upright there ariseth light in darkness. Psl. cxii. 2-4.

The upright shall dwell in thy presence. Ps. cxl. 18.

He (the Lord) is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.The upright shall dwell in the land. Prov. ii. 7, 21.

The way of the Lord is strength to the upright. Prov. x. 29.

The integrity of the upright shall guide them. The righ teousness of the upright shall deliver them. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted. The upright in their way are the Lord's delight. Prov. xi. 3, 6, 11, 20.

The mouth of the upright shall deliver them. Prov.xii. 6.

Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way. Prov. xiii. 6.

The tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. Prov. xiv. 11.

The prayer of the upright is his delight. Prov. xv. 8.

The upright shall have good things in possession.-Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved. Prov. xxviii. 10, 18.

The righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. Isa. vii. 1, 2.

I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them. Jer xxiv. 9.

Fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? Isa. xxxiii. 14.

The hypocrites in heart heap up wrath." Job xxxvi. 13.

The perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them. Transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness. They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the Lord. Prov. xi. 3, 6, 20.

The congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate. Job xv. 34.

Wickedness overthroweth the sinner. Prov. xiii. 6.

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown. Prov xiv. 11.

The sacrifices of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord Prov. xv. 8.

He that is perverse in hi ways shall fall at once. Prov

xxviii. 18.

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness. Prov. xiv. 32

My words do good to him that walketh uprightly. Micah ii. 7.

Destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace have they not known. Rom. iii. 16, 17.

To those who keep the Sab- Against those who profane bath-day holy.

Blessed is the man that doeth this; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it. Isaiah Ivi. 2.

Every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar. Isaiah lvi. 6, 7.

Thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters; I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. Isa. lvi. 4, 5.

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight,

the Sabbath-day.

If ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath-day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jeru salem on the sabbath-day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched. Jer. xvii. 27.

Ye shall keep the sabbath, therefore; for it is holy unto you; every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath-day, he shall surely be put to death. Exod. xxxi. 14,

Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast profaned my sabbaths. Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong in the days that I shall deal with thee? Ezek. xxii. 8, 14.

While the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath-day, and they

the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words; then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. Isaiah lviii. 13, 14.

It shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord. Isaiah lxvi. 22.

Honour.

To make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in names, and in honour, and that thou mayst be an holy people unto the Lord thy God. Deut. xxvi. 19.

I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honour, so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. 1 Kings iii. 13.

Both riches and honour come from thee, and thou reignest over

that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. And they put him in ward, because it was not deIclared what should be done to him. And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses. Num. xv. 32-36.

Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail, saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?-The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works. Amos viii. 4, 5, 7.

Shame.

They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought. Job. viii. 22.

A wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth insruction. Prov. xiii. 18.

As they were increased, so they sinned against me; there

all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great. 1 Chron. xxix. 12.

He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor: his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour. Psl. cxii. 9.

Them that honour me, I will honour. 1 Sam. ii. 30.

Exalt her, (wisdom) and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. Pro. iv. 8.

Righteousness exalteth a nation. Prov. xiv. 34. He that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. Prov. xiii.

18.

The wise shall inherit glory. Prov. iii. 35.

By humility, and the fear of the Lord, are riches, and honour, and life. Prov. xxii. 4.

Honour shall uphold the upright in spirit. Prov. xxix. 23.

By patient continuing in well doing, seek for glory and honour. Rom. ii. 7.

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1 Tim. v. 17.

Promises to the
Merciful.

With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful. 2 Sam. xxii. 26.

fore will I change their glory into shame. Hosea iv. 7.

For thy violence against thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever. Obad. 10.

I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you; and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten. Jer. xxiii. 40.

Thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood, therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear. Jer. xiii. 25, 26.

Sin is a reproach to any people. Prov. xiv. 34.

When pride cometh, then cometh shaine. Prov. xi. 2.

Shame shall be the promotion of fools. Prov. iii. 35.

We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us, for we have sinned against the Lord. Jer. iii. 25.

Shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is the Lord thy God. Mic. vii. 10.

Thou art filled with shame for glory. Hab. ii. 16.

Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is their shame, who mind earthly things. Phil. iii.

Threatenings against the
Unmerciful.

He shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy. James ii. 13.

Let there be none to extend mercy unto him, because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy men. Psl. cix. 12 -16.

He that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. Prov. xi. 17.

The Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land: because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. Hos. iv. 1.

Woe unto you! ye have omitted the weighter matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith. Matt. xxiii. 23.

He ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors. Psa. vii. 13.

Thus saith the Lord, I will not turn away the punishment thereof, because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever. Amos. i. 11.

The tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. Prov. xii. 10.

Shouldst not thou have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as I had pity on thee? And his Lord delivered him to the tormentors. Matt. xviii. 33, 34.

He who is glad at calamities shall not go unpunished. Prov, xvii. 5.

Because he cruelly oppressed, and spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo! even he shall die in his iniquity. Ezek. xviii, 18.

A reprobate mind;—filled with all unrighteousness; implacable, unmerciful. Rom. i. 28, 29.
