The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee. Deut. xxxiii. 27.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psl. xxiii. 4.

Thou, Lord, hast holpen me and comforted me. Psl. lxxxvi.

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him, for he knoweth our frame, he remembereth that we are dust. Psalm ciii. 13, 14.

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished. Isa. xl. 1, 2.

Sorrow in Affliction.

I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain; for your enemies shall eat it. Lev. xxvi. 16.

The Lord shall give thee a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind, and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee, and thou shalt fear day and night. Deut. xxviii. 65, 66.

This shall ye have of mine hand, ye shall lie down in sorrow. Isa. 1. 11.

I will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; when your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind, when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Prov. i. 26, 27.

We looked for peace, but no good came: and for a time of health, and behold trouble. Jer. viii. 15.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God. Isa. xliii. 2, 3.

O Lord, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortest me. Isa. xii. 1.

The Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. Isa. xlix.

As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you. Isa. lxvi. 13.

Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matt. v. 4.

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another, according to Christ Jesus. Rom. xv. 5.

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 2 Cor. i. 3, 4.

God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us. 2 Cor. vii. 6.

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation, and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts.

They shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness. Isa. viii. 22.

The Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Psal. ii. 4, 5.

The Lord shall trouble thee this day. Josh. vii. 25.

God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me. Job. xxiii. 16.

Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women. Isa. xxxii. 10.

Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him. Job. xv. 24.

I am in distress; my bowels are troubled: mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death. They have heard that I sigh; there is none to comfort me all mine enemies have heard of my trouble. Lam. i. 20, 21.

Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that doeth evil. Rom. ii. 9.

Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: that men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most High over

The Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee. Deut. vii, 15.

Turn again, and tell Hezekiah, the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord. And I will add unto thy days fifteen years. 2 Kings xx. 5, 6.

He is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom. Job xxxiii. 24.

He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light. Job xxxiii. 28.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

Sickness prolonged and increased.

Thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day. 2 Chron. xxi. 15.

All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness. Eccles. v. 17.

I will make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins. Mic. vi. 13.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. Psalm xci. 3, 5, 6.

Behold I will bring health and cure; and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth. Jer. xxxiii. 6.

I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken,,and will strengthen that which was sick. Ezek. xxxiv. 16.

When Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her. And he healed all that were sick. Matt. viii. 14-16.

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. James v. 14, 15.

Peace promised and
enjoyed.

I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid-neither shall the sword go through your land. Lev. xxvi. 6.

The Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. Deut. xx. 4.

plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. Deut. xxviii. 59.

He will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Deut. xxviii. 60.

I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them. They shall be

burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction. Deut. xxxii. 23, 24.

What do ye imagine against the Lord? he will make an utter end: affliction shall rise up the second time. Nah. i. 9.

Upon his house and upon his throne, there shall be peace for ever from the Lord. 1 Kings ii. 33.

He had peace on all sides round about him. And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine, and under his fig-tree. 1 Kings iv. 24, 25.

The beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee: and thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace. Job v.23, 24.

They shall beat their swords into plow-shares, and their spears into pruning-hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more Isaiah

ii. 4.

Lord thou wilt ordain peace for us. Isaiah xxvi. 12.

My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. Isaiah xxxii. 18.

I will make with them a covenant of peace: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods. Ezek. xxxiv. 25.

I will deliver thee in that day, saith the Lord; and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid. For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee, because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the Lord. xxxix. 17, 18.

Jer.

The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. Exodus xvii. 16.

In those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in; but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries. And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city. 2 Chron. xv. 5, 6.

Their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. Zeph. i. 17.

Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near, let them come up; beat your plow-shares into swords, and your pruning-hooks into spears. Joel iii. 9, 10.

There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked. Isaiah xlviii. 22.

The sword of the Lord shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace. Jer. xii. 12.

Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none. Ezek. vii. 25.

The days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter; for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place. Jer. vii. 32.
