Promises to those who draw near to, and wait for, or upon God.

The Lord spake, saying, I will be sanctified in all them that come nigh me; and before all the people will I be glorified. Levit. x. 3.

Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the Lord. Psl. xxvii. 14.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. For evil dcers shall soon be cut off: but those who wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. Psl. Xxxvii. 9.

It is good for me to draw near to God. Psl. lxxiii. 28.

Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee. Prov. xx. 22.

Blessed is the man whom thou causest to approach unto thee. Psal. lxxv. 4.

Threatenings against those who draw not near or backslide from God.

Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee; know therefore and see, that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God. Jer. ii. 19.

Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments. Psl. cxix. 21.

If thou do at all forget the Lord thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall sureÏy perish. As the nations which the Lord destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish. Deut. viii. 19, 20.

O backsliding daughter, I will bring a fear upon thee. Jer. xlix. 45.

I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and them that worship the host of heaven, and them that are turned back from the Lord; and those who have not sought the Lord nor enquired for him. Zeph,i. 4—6.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways. Prov. xiv. 4.

O Lord, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from thee shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living waters. Jer. xvii. 13.

Because ye are turned away from the Lord, therefore the Lord will not be with you. Num. xiv. 43.

Thou hast forsaken me, and gone away backward: therefore will I destroy thee. Jer. xv. 6.

They shall curse their God, and look upward. And they shall look upon the earth, and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness. Isa. viii. 21, 22.

Thus saith the Lord; cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and

whose heart departeth from the Lord, for he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land, and not inhabited. Jer. xvii. 5, 6.

The sword shall abide on his cities, for my people are bent to backsliding. Hosea xi. 6.

The turning away of the simple shall slay them. Prov. i. 32.

Every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased. How shall I pardon thee for this? Thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods, when I fed them to the full. Shall not I visit for these things? saith the Lord: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? Jer. v. 6, 7, 9.

When the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, all his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. Ezek. xviii. 24.

If any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Heb. x. 38.

If thou forsake God, he will cast thee off for ever. 1 Chron. xxviii. 9.

They have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger. Isa. i. 4.

Shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Exod. xx. 5.

Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faith ful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations. Deut. vii. 9.

Let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. Judges v. 31.

Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psa. xxxvii. 4.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I de. liver him: I will set him on high,because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. Psalm xci. 14-16.

The Lord preserveth them that love him. Psa. cxlv. 20.

The sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him and to love the name of the Lord; even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer. Isa. Ivi. 6, 7.

I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the childrer unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. Exod. xx. 5.

He repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy him: he will not be slack to them that hateth him, he will repay him to his face. Deut. vii. 10.

I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them. Deut. xxxii. 23. They that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. 1 Sam. ii. 30.

Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to the king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the Lord? therefore is this wrath come upon thee from the Lord. 2 Chron. xix. 2.

Haters of God are worthy of death. Rom. i. 30. 32.

I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will repay them that hate me. I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh. Deut. xxxii. 41.

Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, thus saith the Lord I do remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilder ness, in a land that was not sown. Jer. ii. 2.

We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom. viii. 28.

As it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 1 Cor. ii. 9.

Hath not God chosen the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him. James ii. 5.

Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the rock of his salvation. And when God saw it he abhorred them, and said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be. Deut. xxxii. 15, 19, 20.

Lo thine enemies, O Lord, lo, thine enemies shall perish. Psalm xcii. 9.

According to their deeds accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies. Isaiah lix. 18.

God will wound the head of his enemies, and the hairy scalp of such an one as goeth on still in his trespasses. Psa. lxviii. 21.

I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Psa. viii. 17.

Jesus said, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much Luke vii. 47.

He that loveth me shall be loved of my father; and I will love him. And we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John xiv. 21, 23.

The Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me. These words have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. John xvi. 27, 33.
