right in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. Psl. xcvii. 11, 12.

The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in him; and all the_upright_in heart shall glory. Psl. lxiv. 10.

The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. Isa. xxix. 19.

Thou shalt rejoice in the Lord, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah xli. 16.

Sing, O heavens, and be joyful, O earth: for the Lord hath comforted his people. Isaiah xlix. 13.

They shall obtain joy and gladness; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away. Isa. li. 11.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Psl. xxiii. 4.

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people; saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned. Isaiah xl. 1, 2.

The Lord shall comfort Zion, joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving and the voice of melody. Isaiah li. 3.

Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries, all her pleasant things which she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: her adversaries saw her, and did mock at her sabbaths. Lam. i. 7.

Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow. Isaiah 1. 11.

Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation. Ezek. xxiii. 33.

Ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexaof spirit. Isaiah lxv. 14.

Let those that put their trust in thee rejoice; let them even shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name, be joyful in thee. Psalm v. 11.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for ever more. Psalm xvi. 11.

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. Psalm xxvi. 5.

I have seen his ways and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him. Isaiah lvii. 18.

Your sorrow shall be turned into joy. John xvi. 20.

Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: and I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. Jer. xxxi. 13.

Although the fig-tree shall not-blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of

the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls. Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Hab. iii. 17, 18.

Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for lo! I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord. Zech. ii. 10.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matt. v. 4.

These things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. 1 John i. 4.

and to girding with sackcloth. Isa. xxii. 12.

Ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall bowl for vexation of spirit. Isa. lxv. 14.

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked. Psl. xxxii. 10.

Fear and dread shall fall upon them. Exodus xv. 16.

Promises to those who fear God.

The Lord commanded us to fear the Lord our God for our good always. Deut. vi. 24.

If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the Lord; then shall both ye, and also the king that reigneth over you, continue following the Lord your God. 1 Sam. xii. 14.

The Lord your God ye shall fear: and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. 2 Kings xvii. 39.

What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

Threatenings against those who fear not God.

Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God. But thou O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction. Psalm lv. 19, 23.

If thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land. Deut. xxx. 17, 18.

Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle. The iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged away with sacrifice nor offering for ever. 1 Sam. iii. 11, 14.

Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. And the Lord plagued

His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. Psalm xxv. 12-14.

The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him, and he will shew them his covenant. Psalm xxv. 14.

Behold the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Psalm xxxiii. 18, 19.

The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O, fear the Lord, ye his saints; for there is no want to them that fear him. Psl. xxxiv. 7, 9.

Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord, that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house : thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel. Psl. cxxviii. Η6.

He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him; he also will hear their cry, and will save them. Psl. cxlv. 19.

They have not humbled, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law. Therefore, thus saith the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel: Behold I will set my face against you for evil. Jer. xliv. 10, 11.

By these three was the third part of men killed. And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues, yet repented not of the work of their hands, that they should not worship devils and idols of gold. Rev. 1x. 18-20.

He hath mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Rom. ix. 18.

If ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a by-word among all people. 1 Kings ix. 6, 7.

Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them. Jcr. xi. 11.

The fear of the Lord tendeth to life, and he that hath it shall be satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. Prov. xix. 23.

Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Prov. xxxi. 30.

It shall be well with them that fear God, that fear before him. Eccl. viii. 12.

In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge. Prov. xiv. 26.

Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant; that walketh in darkness and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God. Isaiah 1. 10.

They that feared the Lord, spake often one to another; and the Lord hearkened and heard; and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of Hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels. Mal. iii. 16, 17.

It shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God. Eccl. viii. 13.

They hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord. Therefore shall they eat the fruit of their own way. Prov. i. 29-31.

Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore, and see, that it is an evil and a bitter thing that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee; saith the Lord of Hosts. Jer. ii, 19.

I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, adulterers, and false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me; saith the Lord of Hosts. Mal. iii. 5.
