He (God) hath said, I will never leave, nor forsake thee. Heb. xiii. 5.

Though they bring up their children yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them! Hosea ix. 12.

Promises that God will not utterly reject, or utterly cast off his People.

i will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to breaking my covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God. Lev. xxvi. 44.

The Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence. 2 Kings xiii. 23.

If ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there. Neh. i. 9.

Denunciations of God's Anger in rejecting the Wicked and casting them off.·

Then said the Lord unto me, (Jeremiah,) Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go. Jer. xv. 1.

The children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matt. viii. 12.

The Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imagi nations of the thoughts: if thou forsake him he will cast thee off for ever. 1 Chron. xxviii. 9.

The axe is laid unto the root of the trees; therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Matt. iii. 10.

The Lord rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. 2 Kings xvii. 20.

Reprobate silver shall men

Direction and Instruction

The Lord's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. He found him in a desert land, and in a waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings, so the Lord 'alone did lead him. Deut. xxxii. 9-12.

The Lord is my Shepherd. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Psl. xxiii. 1, 3.

Good and upright is the Lord, therefore will he teach sinners in the way. The meek will he guide in judgment: the meek will he teach his way. Psl. xxv. 8, 9.

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Psl. xxxii. 8.

This God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. Psl. xlviii. 14.

Behold, the Lord will cast her (Tyrus) out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire. Zech. ix. 4.

Confusion and Error threatened.

His (the name of the Lord) lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire: and his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: and there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err. Isa. xxx. 28.

As for you, your carcasses they shall fall in the wilderness. And your children shall wander in the wilderness. Num. xiv. 32, 33.

Behold, the day is come, saith the Lord, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall .cause him to wander. Jer. xlviii. 12.

They shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. Amos viii. 12.

They shall go to confusion together, that are makers of idols. Isa. xlv. 16.

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterwards receive me to glory. Psl. lxxiii. 24.

Thine cars shall hear a word behind thee, saying, "This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Isa. Xxx. 21.

They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them; for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them. Isa. xlix. 10.

The Lord shall guide thee continually. Isa. lviii. 11.

To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Luke i. 79.

If any man will do his (God's) will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God. John vii. 17.

When he (the Spirit of truth) is come, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will shew you things to come. John xvi. 13.

A deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul. Isa. xliv. 20.

He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. Prov. v. 23.

The cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness. Isa. xxxiv. 11.

Their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten. Jer. xx. 11.

The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies. Psl. Iviii. 3.

Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments. Psi. cxix. 21.

It is a people of no understanding; therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour, Isa. xxvii. 11.

Threatenings against the Disobedient and Rebellious.

If thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments and his statutes; all these curses (from 16th verse to 20th) shall come upon thee and overtake thee. Deut. xxviii. 15

Thus saith the Lord God of

and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea-shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. Gen. xxii. 17, 18.

If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians. Exod. xv. 26.

If ye will walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments and do them, then will I give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase. Lev. xviii. 5.

If thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries. xxxii. 22.

Exod.

All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth to such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. Psalm xxv. 10.

Let thine heart keep my commandments; for long live and peace shall they add unto thee. Prov. i. 3.

I am the Lord. If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of

Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant; which I commanded your fathers; saying, Obey my voice, and do according to all that I command you. Jer. xi. 3, 4.

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stuhbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee (Saul) from being king. 1 Saml. xv. 22, 23.

They (the Jews) were disobedient, and rebelled against thee; therefore thou deliveredst them into the hands of their enemies, who vexed them. Neh. ix. 26, 27.

Behold, I send an angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. Exod. xxxii. 20, 21,

The wrath of God. cometh upon the children of disobedience.. Eph. ii. 2.

The law is made for the law. less and disobedient. 1 Tim. i. 9..

If ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments: and if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my
