nate Son of God. to Gethsemane, and to the Mount of Olives, and to the brook Kidron, and to the awful scene of Calvary, all their sacred and af fecting interest, so that men of every country and of every clime, through successive periods of time, glory in the cross of Christ. These transactions will be remembered, and furnish the theme of angelic songs, and of the praises of the redeemed, when the earth shall pass away as a scroll, and their place is no where to be found." From hence he ascended to heaven, to his Father and our Father, to his God and our God; let our thoughts and imaginations follow him from this land of Promise on earth to the new Jerusalem— the Heavenly Canaan, which he has gone before to prepare for us. Keeping this new and better country in prospect, "whither the forerunner has for us entered," let us trace his footsteps, that we, with all the redeemed, may enter into "that rest, which remaineth for the people of God."

ON SCRIPTURE GEOGRAPHY.

IN treating on this subject, I shall begin with giving a brief description of the Land of Canaan, it being a part of the world early peopled, and the scene of a great many of the most wonderful transactions recorded in the Old and New Testaments. It was situated in the western part of the continent of Asia, and was bounded by the mountains of Lebanon and Syria on the north; by Arabia Deserta on the east, by Arabia Petæra on the south; and by the Mediterranean Sea; (called in Scripture the Great Sea) on the west. Its length was about 180 miles, and its breadth 90. The climate of this country is warm, and the soil remarkably fertile, being described in Scripture as "a land flowing with milk and honey." The face of the country is beautifully diversified, some parts presenting extensive plains and vales, and others hills and mountains. It was first peopled by Canaan the
