Surely if any may, I have the greatest Reafon of all. But what can Mortals do? Angels, and Archangels, joined with all the Redeemed in Glory, to all Eternity! can never fpcak his Praise, or tell his Goodness; fear not my Soul for this GOD is thy GOD. The LION of the Tribe of Judah, will bring thee through every afflictive Difpenfation of Providence, nor fhall this expected Trial, be too heavy for thee, for as thy Day is, fo fhall thy Strength be. I have called upon the LORD, in past Troubles, and he hath heard me, I can raife my Ebenezer, and fay hitherto, he hath helped me. He will never leave

me, I have his Word for it; I have the Veracity of the ETERNAL GOD! to rely upon, he will be with me even unto Death; and when that awful, get pleafing Moment approaches, and I am called upon to lay down this Clay Tenement: then fhall I be enabled, to fay, (through my LORD and SAVIOUR) 0 Death! where is thy Sting? O Grave! where is thy Villory? and why me? I cannot claim eternal Happiness, as a Reward of Merit: No, It is impoffible for any finite being to do any thing pleafing in the Sight of an infinite GOD, it is a pure Act of Bounty, from the LORD. Bought and purchafed with the BLOOD OF JESUS, and we through his free Grace are made meet, for the Enjoyment of Heaven.

Grant O LORD that I may be enabled, with a Holy Refignation to lay paffive in thy Hands; do thou wholly conform me to the Image. of my adorable

adorable and bleffed SAVIOUR, whose Prefence is my Delight; his Word is precious: his Ways are pleafing; and I glory that I am accounted worthy to fuffer for my JESUS. Forbid it O LORD that I fhould live: but to thy Glory. Ungrateful and unmindful as I am of thy Mercies; yet O LORD! I defire to spend, and be spent, in thy Service; rather put a stop to my Existence, than I should live, to dishonour thee. Oh! give me a Spirit of Prayer, and Supplication, and enable me to be continually upon the Watch, lead me to the ROCK that is higher than I am, that ROCK which the Righteous entereth into, and are safe. That when this toilfome Journey is finished, I may enter once into thy Prefence, and cloathed in the Righteousness of JESUS, be made acceptable in the Beloved; then Before thy Throne, fhall I adore, and bless the Lamb to all Eternity.

"But oh! Eternity's too fhort,
"to utter all thy Praife".

DR. WATTS.

I have great Reason to praise GOD, for his Divine Prefence. Scarcely a Day; but I am bound to praise him, for the Manifeftations of his Love, JESUS! IS MINE. O that I could love him more, and ferve him better. Grant O LORD, that I may live to his Glory.

For

JESUS

JESUS is my all' in all.

1

Jefus! my Author, and my End,
My Pattern and my Guidè;'
Jefus my Brother, and my Friend,
O! keep me near thy Side.

2

For thee I pant, for thee I cry,
Jefus! thou Lord of Peace:

Reveal thyself to me; come nigh!
And bid my Sorrows cease.

3

Jefus! my Prophet, do thou teach
Me now; to do thy Will;
Oh! do of this for ever preach:
And grant thy Prefence ftill.

!

4

Jefus my Prieft; thou now doft fland!
At the right Hand of God

To plead for those who in this Land:
Are wafh'd white, in thy Blood.

5

Jefus my King, all Praise to thee,
Who left thy heavenly Throne!

[blocks in formation]

To die for Man! even for me.
O rule and reign alone.

6

O Lord thou infinite! Supreme !
To me, thy Love impart :

Let thy Salvation be my Theme,
Oh! feal it on my Heart.

7

On me, thy Grace thou haft beftow'd,
All Glory be to thee;

For thou alone, art worthy Lord:
Of all the Praise from me.

8

The Ransom that our bleeding Lord,
On Calv'ry's Mount has paid:

Does Grace, and Glory both afford,
'Twas done without our Aid.

Glory be to the LORD moft high! that I am ftill a living Monument of fparing Mercy, I can look back from the Time of my Nativity and view the abundant Goodness of the LORD. His preventing Grace preferved me; when running with the giddy multitude: and feeking my own inevitable

inevitable Deftruction. Had the LORD have dealt with me according to my Deserts, I must have been for Ever banished from his Prefence. And even now! what a Mercy! that I am not confumned, it is because his Compaffion's fail not, for I am entirely unworthy of the Bleffings I enjoy: It is through the Merits of THE LORD JESUS; and why are they bestowed on me? Haft thou O LORD fixed upon the Vileft: that thy Grace might fhine the brighter? Then! to thy free Grace be all the Glory. I will be content; only grant me a Continuance of thy divine Prefence; let me live in thy Service, and to thy Glory. That I may fhew forth the Praifes of him who hath done fuch great Things for my Soul. And when thou art pleased to call me, I will praise and adore thy Name to all Eternity.

CHRIST, the Saints Reft.

Oh! how delightful is the Road,
That leads to Zion's Hill;

Thy Paths are fweet to me, O God:

Teach me to do thy will,

For, I wou'd count it all my Joy,

To fuffer for my Lord!
