There were also many looking on; and amongst them was Mary the mother of JESUS, and Mary Magdalen, and his beloved disciple John, who, at our LORD's desire, after his death, took the mother of JESUS home to his own house, to cherish and to comfort her; and she continued to live with him to the day of her death. AT the time of the crucifixion, the Jews were preparing for a solemn festival, therefore they begged that the legs of those who were crucified might be broken, in order to hasten their death, that they might not remain on the crosses on the feast day; and the soldiers did so to the thieves; but when they came to JESUS, and found that he was already dead, instead of breaking his legs, one of the soldiers ran a spear into his side, and there flowed out blood and water.
