my Crofs; by living only to thee; by cleanfing myfelf from all Filthinefs both of Flesh and Spirit, perfecting Holiness in the Fear of God.

How illuftrious and amiable were thy Graces. amidst all thy Sufferings ! O thou afflicted Jefus, I admire and love thy profound Humility, unwearied Patience, Lamb-like Meeknefs, immaculate Innocence, invincible Courage, abfolute Refignation, compaffionate Love of Souls,. and perfect Charity to thy Enemies. Give me Grace to tread in thy Steps, and conform myfelf to thy divine Image: So that having made thee the Object of my Imitation upon Earth, I may be called to glorify and praife thee in Heaven with Angels, Archangels, and all the Saints departed in thy Fear, Amen.

The following Prayer for God's Acceptance of our prefent Service may be used, if Time will permit, just before approaching the Lord's Table.

Lord our Father, our Redeemer, whofe Name is from everlasting, look down from Heaven, from the Habitation of thy Holiness and of thy Glory, in Mercy upon us here affembled to make a folemn Memorial of the Death and Paffion of thy Son, according to his Inftitution, and in Obedience to his Command. Grant that no Defect in any of us may hinder us from Partaking of the Benefits of that one perfect Sacrifice, Oblation, and Satisfaction once made upon the Crofs for the Sins of the

whole World, which is now represented and commemorated before thee. We befeech thee not to remember against us former Iniquities3, but to behold the Face of thine Anointed 4, and for his Sake to turn from the Fierceness of thine Anger towards us 5. Send thy holy Spirit into cur Hearts, to cleanfe and fanctify us throughout in Soul and Body, that together with these confecrated Elements of Bread and Wine which have been offered unto thee, we (who wait for thy loving Kindnefs, O Lord, in the Midft of thy Temple) may receive thofe inward Graces and Bleffings they were appointed to convey,

and be washed in that Fountain which thou haft opened for Sin and for Uncleannefs 7. Behold we put our Confidence in thy Mercy, let us never be confounded.

Thou art, bleffed Jefu! the true living and Life-giving Bread which came down from Heaven: O may we fo eat of this Bread, may we be fo Partakers of the Fruits of thy Paffion, as to live for ever.

Ejacula

Ejaculations at the Lord's Table.

Bleffed Jefu! in the Bread broken I behold, with the Eye of Faith, thy Body torn with Whips, and Thorns, and Nails; and in the Wine poured, thy precious Blood fhed for my Sins!

By thine Agony and bloody Sweat, by thy Crofs and Paffion, and by thy precious Death,. good Lord deliver me; be merciful to my Unrighteoufnefs, and my Sins and my Iniquities do thou remember no more.

O Lamb of God, who takeft away the Sins of the World, my Soul truly waiteth upon thee, for of thee cometh my Salvation".

I am not worthy to eat of the Crumbs which fall from my Mafter's Table.

Greater Love hath no Man than this, that a Man lay down bis Life for his Friends ---But God commendeth his Love towards us, in that whilst we were yet Sinners Chrift died for us'. For, we were not redeemed with corruptible Things, as Silver and Gold, but with the precious Blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without

* I put here a Variety of Sentences, in order for the Communicant to felect thofe which he may like beft; but by no Means with any View that he should ufe them all, if Time does not conveniently permit: And I give this Caution, be-caufe I have obferved fome People, to stay an unreasonable Time at the Table after they have received (I fuppofe to go thro' all the Forms of Prayer mention'd in the Bock which they have in their Hands) to the great Inconvenience of other Communicants, and the Interruption of the Service.

At Receiving of the Bread *.

Eat this Bread, my Lord and my God", in Remembrance of thy wonderful Love towards Mankind, and with an entire Trust in the Merits of thy Death. I defire to thank thee with an unfeigned Heart, for thou art good, and thy Mercy endureth for ever. Make me a Partaker of the Virtue of thy crucified Body, and grant that I may crucify the Flesh with its Affections and Lufts P.

Will receive the Cup of Salvation, and call

upon and praise the Name of the Lord".

I drink of this Cup, Lord, in a joyful Commemoration of thy Blood fhed for the Remif fion of Sins.

May the Blood of Chrift, who thro' the eter nal Spirit offered himself without Spot to God, purge my Confcience from dead Works to ferve the living God.

O Lord, I beseech thee deliver my Soul'; Let me be washed and cleansed in the Blood of the Lamb which was flain from the Foundation of the World".

After

Afterwards, fome of these Paffages of Scripture: may be used.

Thanks be unto God for his unfpeakable Gift, in fending his Son into the World; in whom we have Redemption thro' his Blood, even the Forgiveness of Sins"; according to the exceeding Riches of his Grace *.

Blefs the Lord, O my Soul, and all that is within me praise his holy Name: Praise the Lord, O my Soul, and forget not all his Benefits; Who forgiveth all thine Iniquities, and healeth all thy Difeafes; Who redeemeth thy Life from Deftruction, and crowneth thee with loving Kindness and tender Mercies ; Who fatisfeth thy Mouth with good Things".

Let us give Thanks unto the Father, who bath made us meet to be Partakers of the Inheritance of the Saints in Light; who hath delivered us from the Power of Darkness, and hath tranflated us into the Kingdom of his dear Son".

In this was manifested the Love of God towards us, becaufe that God fent his only begotten Son into the World, that we might live thro' him. Herein is Love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and fent his Son to be the Propitiation for our Sins 2.

Worthy is the Lamb that was flain to receive Power, and Riches, and Wisdom, and Strength, and Honour, and Glory, and Bleffing. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from
