divine grace, I beseech Thee, cover over all sins I have this day committed in thought or word, and especially my transgressions against Thee and Thy holy law, and leave not me, Thy creature, whom Thou hast purchased at so great a price with the blood of Thy Son, Jesus Christ; but shield me this night under the wings of Thy grace against the evil one who cometh abroad like a roaring lion to devour me. Cause me to rest and sleep in the shadow of Thy mercy, that the evil one come not nigh nor be able to harm me. Amen.

LORD. I am about to close mine eyes in sleep, but Thou, Who keepest Israel, slumberest not nor sleepest. Thou dost guard me in

body and soul. Darkness has fallen round about me. Let the light of Thy countenance be over me and be gracious unto me. Sorrow and care are now laid aside, but let me not forget Thee while I sleep. As my lips now sink into silence, let my soul still pray to Thee when I sleep. Lord, bless my rest. Cleanse my soul that no impure dreams defile my heart nor trouble Thy spirit. Be Thou my dream, my joy and my glory, that I may awake to praise Thy name, so holy, so gracious, so wonderful. Amen.

182.

LORD Jesus Christ, the darkness

descends upon us, to whom shall we flee? Unto Thee I come, O heavenly, Eternal Light. Shine Thou round about me that mine eyes

fall not into the sleep of eternal death. Banish from my presence the evil spirit and all his angels and whatsoever else is at enmity with my soul. Cause me to sleep in peace, to rest in safety, and to awake again in joy, to live a Christian life, and, at last, to die a blessed death. Let Thy grace be with me now and at all times, unto all eternity. Amen. O Son of David, have mercy upon me and forgive me all my transgressions. Amen. The Love of God the Father, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the communion of the Holy Ghost be with me and with all believers. Amen.

THURSDAY.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

The Lord is thy refuge; even the most High is thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. (Ps. 91: 1, 2, 9, 10, 14-16).
