21. ACQUAINT thyself with God, and be at peace

with him:

22. And lay up his words in thine heart.

23. If thou return to the Almighty, put away iniquity from thee.

* The words are here printed literatim from the original in King Henry the Eighth's Primer, where this Anthem is the hymn in the Compline.

7. ALL they that see him laugh him to scorn; they shoot out their lips, and shake their heads, saying,

8. He trusted in GoD, that he would deliver him : let him deliver him, if he delight in him.

Is. liii. 8. He was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of thy people was he stricken.

Ps. xvi. 11. But thou didst not leave his soul in hell nor didst thou suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.

1 COR. XV. 21. Since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

22. For as in Adam all die, even so in CHRIST shall all be made alive.

REV. v. 12, 13. Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, and hath redeemed us to God by his blood, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. Blessing and honour, glory and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb, for ever and ever. Amen. [HANDEL.

25, 26. Then shall he be thy defence, and thy delight:

27. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he will hear thee.

29. The LORD will deliver the righteous, he will save the humble man. [GREENE.

6. ALL flesh is grass, and all its goodliness is like the flower of the field.

7. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; because the Spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it. Surely the people is grass.

8. But the word of our GoD shall stand fast for

ever.

[MASON.

10. ALL thy works praise thee, O LORD: and thy saints give thanks unto thee.

11. They shew the glory of thy kingdom: and talk of thy power;

12. That thy power, thy glory, and mightiness of thy kingdom might be known unto men.

13. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom: and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages.

14. The LORD upholdeth all such as fall and lifteth up all those that are down.

:

15. The eyes of all wait upon thee, O LORD and thou givest them their meat in due season.

:

16. Thou openest thine hand and fillest all things living with plenteousness. [KENT, ARNOLD.

7. AND GOD made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

The glorious hierarchy of heaven behold amazed the marvellous work, and through the ethereal vault resound the praise of GOD, and of the second day.

9. And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear and it was so.

10. And God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of waters called he seas and God saw that it was good.

A new created world springs up at God's command.

11. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit-tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself upon the earth and it was so.

20. And God said, Let the earth bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth, in the open firmament of heaven.

21. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth;

22. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful all and multiply, ye winged tribes be multiplied, and sing on every tree: multiply ye finny tribes, and fill each watery deep, be fruitful, grow, and multiply, and in your God and LORD rejoice.

And the heavenly host proclaimed the third day, praising GoD and saying,

Awake the harp, the lyre awake, in shout and joy your voices raise in triumph sing the mighty LORD: for he the heavens and earth has clothed in stately dress. [HAYDN.

14. AND GOD said, Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night, and to give light upon the earth;

15. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and for years: he made the stars also.

27. And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

ii. 7. He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

i. 31. And God saw every thing that he had made, and behold it was very good.

* In splendour bright is rising now the sun, and darts his rays, a giant, proud and glad to run his measured

course,

With softer beams, and milder light,

Steps on the silver moon through silent night.

The space immense of the azure sky innumerous hosts of radiant orbs adorn, and the sons of God announced the fourth day in song divine, proclaiming thus his power:

The heavens are telling the glory of God,

The wonder of his work displays the firmament.
