am thy Servant, and that I have done all thefe Things at thy Word.

37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this People may know that thou art the LORD GOD, and that thou haft turned their Heart back again.

38 Then the Fire of the LORD fell, and confumed the Burnt-facrifice, and the Wood, and the Stones, and the Duft, and licked up the Water that was in the Trench.

39 And when all the People faw it, they fell on their Faces and they faid, The LORD, he is the GOD, the LORD, he is the GOD.

40 And Elijah faid unto them, Take the Prophets of Baal, let not one of them efcape: And they took them, and Elijah brought them down to the Brook Kishon, and flew them there.

41 And Elijah faid unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink, for there is a Sound of abundance of Rain.

42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink, and Elijah went up to the top of Carmel, and he caft himself down upon the Earth, and put his Face between his Knees,

43 And faid to his Servant, Go up now, look toward the Sea. And he went up and looked, and faid, There is nothing. And he faid, Go again feven times.

44 And it came to pafs at the feventh time, that he faid, Behold, there arifeth a little Cloud out of the Sea, like a Man's Hand. And he faid, Go up, fay unto Ahab, Prepare thy Chariot, and get thee down, that the Rain ftop thee not.

45 And it came to pafs in the mean while that the Heaven was black with Clouds and Wind, and there was a great Rain and Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

46 And the Hand of the LORD was on Elijah, and he girded up his Loins, and ran before Ahab to the Entrance of Jezreel.

Elijah threatned by Jezebel, fleeth to Beer-fheba: 4 In the Wilderness being weary of his Life, is comforted by an Angel: 9 At Horeb God appeareth unto him, fending him to anoint Hazael, Jehu, and Elisha. 19 Elisha taking leave of his Friends followeth Elijah.

2 Then Jezebel fent a Meffenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the Gods do to me and more alfo, if I make not thy Life as the Life of one of them, by To-morrow about this time.

3 And when he faw that, he arofe and went for his Life, and came to Beer-fheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his Servant there.

4 But he himself went a Day's Journey into the Wildernefs, and came and fat down under a Juniper-tree and he requested for himself that he might die, and faid, It is enough now, O LORD, take away my Life: for I am not better than my Fathers.

5 And as he lay and flept under a Juniper-tree, behold then, an ANGEL touched him, and faid unto him, Arife and

eat.

Heb. i. 7 And of the ANGELS he faith, Who maketh his ANGELS SPIRITS, and his Minifters a Flame of Fire.

6 And he looked, and behold, there was a Cake baken on the Coals, and a Crufe of Water at his Head and he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

7 And the Angel of the LORD came again the fecond time, and touched him, and faid, Arife, and eat, because the Journey is too great for thee.

8 And he arofe, and did eat and drink, and went in the Strength of that Meat forty Days, and forty Nights, unto HOREB the Mount of GOD.

9 And he came thither unto a Cave, and lodged there, and behold, the Word of the LORD came to him, and he faid unto him, What doft thou here, Elijah?

10 And he faid, I have been very jealous for the LORD GOD of Hofts: for the Children of Ifrael have forfaken thy Covenant, thrown down thine Altars, and flain thy Prophets with the Sword, and I, even I only am left, and they feek my Life, to take it away.

11 And he faid, Go forth, and stand upon the Mount before the LORD. And behold, the LORD palled by, and a great and ftrong Wind rent the Mountains, and brake in pieces the Rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not

in the Wind and after the Wind an Earthquake, but the LORD was not in the Earthquake.

12 And after the Earthquake, a Fire, but the LORD wag not in the Fire: and after the Fire, a ftill fmall Voice.

13 And it was fo when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his Face in his Mantle, and went out and ftood in the entring in of the Cave: and behold, there came a Voice unto him, and faid, What doft thou here, Elijah?

14 And he faid I have been very jealous for the LORD GoD of Hofls, because the Children of Ifrael have forfaken thy Covenant, thrown down thine Altars, and flain thy Prophets with the Sword, and I, even I only am left, and they feck my Life, to take it away.

15 And the LORD faid unto him, Go, return on thy way to the Wilderness of Damafcus; and when thou comeft, anoint Hazael to be King over Syria.

6 Yet I will fend my Servants unto thee To-morrow about this time, and they fhall fearch thine Houfe, and the Houfes of thy Servants: and it fhall be, that whatfoever is pleasant in thine Eyes, they fhall put it in their Hand, and take it away.

7 Then the King of Ifrael called all the Elders of the Land, and faid, Mark I pray you, and fee how this Man feeketh Mifchief: for he fent unto me for my Wives, and for my Children, and for my Silver, and for my Gold, and I denied him not.

8 And all the Elders, and all the People faid unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor confent.

9 Wherefore he faid unto the Meflengers of Benhadad, Tell my Lord the King, all that thou didst fend for to thy Servant at the first I will do: but this Thing I may not do. And the Meflengers departed, and brought him word again.

10 And Benhadad fent unto him, and faid, The Gods do fo unto me and more alfo, if the Duft of Samaria fhall fuffice for Handfuls for all the People that follow me.

11 And the King of Ifrael anfwered, and faid, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his Harnefs boaft himself, as he that putteth it off.

12 And it came to pafs when Benhadad heard this Meffage (as he was drinking he and the Kings in the Pavillions) that he faid unto his Servants, Set yourselves in Aray. And they fet themselves in Aray against the City.

13 And behold, there came a Prophet unto Ahab, faying, Thus faith the LORD, Haft thou feen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine Hand this Day, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD,

14 And Ahab faid, By whom? And he faid, Thus faith the LORD, Even by the young Men of the Princes of the Provinces. Then he faid, Who fhall order the Battle? And he anfwered, Thou.

15 Then he numbred the young Men of the Princes of the Provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two, and after them he numbred all the People, even all the Children of Ifrael, being feven thoufand.
