41 And Joshua fmote them from Kadefh-barnea, even unto Gaza, and all the Country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

42 And all these Kings, and their Land did Joshua take at one time because the LORD GOD of Ifrael fought for Ifrael.

43 And Joshua returned, and all Ifrael with him, unto the Camp to Gilgal.

CHAP. XI.

Divers Kings overcome at the Waters of Merom. zor is taken and burnt. 21 The Anakims cut off.

Ver. 1

10 Ha

ND it came to pafs, when Jabin King of Hazor had heard thofe Things, that he fent to Jobab King of Madon, and to the King of Shimron, and to the King of Achfhaph,

2 And to the Kings that were on the North of the Mountains, and of the Plains, South of Cinneroth, and in the Valley, and in the Borders of Dor, on the West;

3 And to the Canaanite on the East, and on the Weft, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebufite in the Mountains, and to the Hivites under Hermon, in the Land of Mizpeh.

4 And they went out, they and all their Hofts with them, much People, even as the Sand that is upon the Sea-shore in multitude, with Horfes and Chariots very many.

5 And when all thefe Kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the Waters of Merom, to fight against Ifrael.

6 And the LORD faid unto Joshua, BE NOT AFRAID because of them for To-morrow about this time will I deliver them up all flain before Ifrael: thou fhalt hough their Horfes, and burn their Chariots with Fire,

7 So Joshua came, and all the People of War with him, against them by the Waters of Merom fuddenly, and they fell upon them.

8 And the LORD delivered them into the Hand of Ifrael, who fmote them, and chafed them unto great Zidon, and unto Mifrephoth-maim, and unto the Valley of Mizpeh Eastward, and they fmote them, until they left them none romaining.

9 And Joshua did unto them as the LORD bade him : he houghed their Horfes, and burnt their Chariots with Fire.

10 And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the King thereof with the Sword for Hazor beforetime was the Head of all thofe Kingdoms.

11 And they smote all the Souls that were therein with the Edge of the Sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to breathe; and he burnt Hazor with Fire.

12 And all the Cities of those Kings, and all the Kings of them did Joshua take, and fmote them with the Edge of the Sword, and he utterly deftroyed them, as Mofes the Servant of the LORD commanded.

13 But as for the Cities that ftood still in their Strength, Ifrael burnt none of them, fave Hazor only; that did Jofhua burn.

15 As the LORD commanded Mofes his Servant, fo did Mofes command Jofhua, and fo did Jofhua: he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Mofes.

16 So Joshua took all that Land, the Hills, and all the South-country, and all the Land of Gofhen, and the Valley, and the Plain, and the Mountain of Ifrael, and the Valley of the fame.

18 Joshua made War a long time with all thofe Kings. 19 There was not a City that made Peace with the Children of Ifrael, fave the Hivites the Inhabitants of Gibeon; all others they took in Battle.

20 For it was of the LORD to harden their Hearts, that they should come against Ifrael in Battle, that he might deftroy them utterly, and that they might have no Favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.

21 And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the Mountains of Judah, and from the Mountains of Ifrael: Joshua deftroyed them utterly with their Cities.

22 There was none of the Anakims left in the Land of the Children of Ifrael: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Afhdod, there remained.

23 So Joshua took the whole Land, according to all that the LORD faid unto Mofes, and Joshua gave it for an Inheritance unto Ifrael, according to their Divifions by their Tribes. And the Land refted from War.

Joshua's Exhortation before his Death, 3 by former Benefits, 5 by Promifes, 41 and by Threatnings,

Ver. 1 AND it came to pafs, a long time after that the

LORD had given REST unto Ifrael from all their Enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and ftricken in Age.

2 And Joshua called for all Ifrael, and for their Elders, and for their Heads, and for their Judges, and for their Officers, and faid unto them, I am old, and ftricken in Age.

3 And ye have feen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all thefe Nations, because of you; for the LORD your God is he that fought for you:

4 Behold, I have divided unto you by Lot these Nations that remain, to be an Inheritance for your Tribes from Jordan, with all the Nations that I have cut off, even unto the great Sea Weft-ward.

5 And the LORD your God, he shall expel them from be fore you, and drive them from out of your fight, and ye shall poffefs their Land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.

6 Be ye therefore very couragious to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Mofes, that ye turn not afide therefrom, to the Right Hand or to the Left,

7 That ye come not among these Nations, these that remain amongst you, neither make mention of the Name of their Gods, nor caufe to fwear by them, neither ferve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:

8 But CLEAVE unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this Day.

9 For the LORD hath driven out from before you, great Nations and strong: but as for you, no Man hath been able to stand before you unto this Day.

10 * One Man of you fhall chafe a thoufand: for the LORD your GOD, he it is that FIGHTETH for you, as he hath promised you.

11 Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye LOVE the LORD your God.

12 Elfe if ye do in any wife go back, and cleave unto the Remnant of thefe Nations, even these that remain among you, and fhall make Marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:

✦ This was fulfilled in the time of the Judges.

13 Know

13 Know for a certainty, that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these Nations from before you; but they shall be Snares and Traps unto you, and Scourges in your Sides, and Thorns in your Eyes, until ye perish from off this good Land which the LORD your God hath given you.

14 And behold, this Day I am going the WAY of ALL the EARTH, and ye know in all your Hearts, and in all your Souls, that not ONE THING hath FAILED of all the good Things which the LORD your God fpake concerning you; ALL are COME TO PASS unto you, and not one Thing hath failed thereof.

15 Therefore it fhall come to pafs, that as all good Things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you: fo fhall the LORD bring upon you all evil Things, until he hath destroyed you from off this good Land, which the LORD your God hath given you.

16 When ye have tranfgrefled the Covenant of the LORD your GOD, which he commanded you, and have gone and ferved other Gods, and bowed yourselves to them: then shall the Anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye fhall perish quickly from off the good Land which he hath given unto you.

CHA P. XXIV.

■ Joshua affembleth the Tribes, 2 relateth GOD's Benefits: 14 He reneweth a Covenant between them and GOD. 29 Joshua's Age, Death, and Burial. 33 Eleazar's Death.

Ver. 1 ND Joshua gathered all the Tribes of Ifrael to Shechem, and called for the Elders of Ifrael, and for their Heads, and for their Judges, and for their Officers, and they presented themselves before GOD.

2 And Joshua faid unto all the People, Thus faith the LORD GOD of Ifrael, Your Fathers dwelt on the other fide of the Flood in Old time, even Terah the Father of Abraham, and the Father of Nachor: and they served other Gods.

3 And I took your Father Abraham from the other fide of the Flood, and led him throughout all the Land of Canaan, and multiplied his Seed, and gave him Ifaac.
