Eter opened his mouth, and faid, Of a truth I perceive that God is no refpecter of perfons, but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteoufnefs, is accepted with him. The word which God fent unto the children of Ifrael, preaching peace by Jefus Chrift, he is Lord of all) That word (fay) you know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptifin, which John preached How God anointed Jefus of Nazareth with the holy Ghoft and with power, who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppreffed of the devil: for God was with him. And we are witnelles of all things which he did, both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerufalem, whom they flew, and hanged on a trees Him God raised up the third day,and fhewed him openly; not to all the people, but unto witnelles chofen be fore of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he arofe from the dead. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to teftific that it is he who was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witnefs, that through his name, whofoever believeth in him, fhall receive remiffion of fins.

The Gospel. S. Luke 24 13.A

Ehold two of his difciples went that fame day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerufalem about threefcore furlongs. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. And it came to pafs, that while they communed together, and reafoned, Jefus himself drew near, and vvent vvith them... But their eyes vvere holden that they fhould not knovy him. And he faid unto them, What manner of communications are thefe that ye have one to another, as yevvalk and are fad? And the one of them, vvhofe name vvas Cleopas, anfvvering faid unto him, Art thou only a ftranger in Jerufalem, and haft not knovvn the things

which are come to pafs there in thefe days? And he faid unto them, What things? And they faid unto him,Concerning Jefus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word, before God and all the people: And how the chief priests, and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.. But we trufted that it had been he, who fhould have redeemed Ifrael: and befide all this, to day is the third day fince thefe things were done. Yea, and certain women also of our company made us aftonished, who were early at the fepulcher, and when they found not his body, they came, faying, that they had alfo feen a vifion of angels, which faid that he was alive. And certain of them who were with us, went to the fepulcher, and found it even fo as the women had faid; but him they faw not. Then he faid unto them, O fools, and flow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! ought not Chrift to have fuffered thefe things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Mofes, and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the fcriptures, the things concerning himself. And they drew nigh unto the village whither they went; And he made as though he would have gone further. But they conftrained him, faying, Abide with us, for it is towards evening, and the day is far fpent: And he went in to tarry with them. And it came to pafs,as he fat at meat with them, he took bread, and bleffed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him,and he vanished out of their fight. And they faid one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way,and while he opened to us the fcriptures? And they rofe up the fame hour, and returned to Jerufalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, faying, The Lord is rifen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them breaking of bread.

For the Epiftle. Acts 13. 26.

En and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whofoever among you feareth God,to you is the word of this falvation fent. For they that dwellat Jerufalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every fabbath-day,they have fulfilled them in condemning him. And though they found no caufe of death in him, yet defired they Pilate that he should be flain. And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a fepulcher. But God raised him from the dead: And he was feen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerufalem, who are his witneffes unto he people. And we declare unto you glad tidings, now that the promise which was made unto the Fathers, God hath fulfilled the fame unto us their children, in that e hath raifed up Jefus again, as it is alfo written in the econd pfalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begoten thee. And as concerning that he raifed him up from he dead, now no more to return to corruption, he faid n this wife, I will give you the fure mercies of David. Wherefore he faith alfo in another pfalm, Thou fhalt ot fuffer thine holy One to fee corruption. For David ter he had ferved his own generation by the will of od, fell on fleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and

faw corruption. But he whom God raifed again, faw no corruption: Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of fins: And by him all that be lieve are juftified from all things, from which ye could not be juftified by the law of Mofes. Beware therefore, left that come upon you, which is fpoken of in the prophets, Behold, ye defpifers, and wonder, and perifh: for I work a work in your days, a work which you fhall in no wife believe, though a man declare it unto you...

The Gospel. S. Luke 24, 36.

Efus himself ftood in the midst of them, and faith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and fuppofed that they had feen a fpirit. And he faid unto them, Why are ye troubled, and vvhy do thoughts arife in your hearts? behold inv hands and my feet, that it is I my felf: handle me, and fee; for a fpirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye fee me have. And vvhen he had thus fpoken,he hevved them And

his hands and his feet while they yet believed not

for joy, and vvondred, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of a broiled fifh, and of an honey-comb. And he took it, and did eat before them. And he faid into them, Thefe are the vvords vvhich I fpake unto you, vvhile I vvas yet vvith. you, that all things muft be fulfilled vvhich vvére vvritten in the lavv of Mofes and in the prophets, and in the pfalms concerning me. Then opened he their underftanding, that they might underftand the fcriptures, and faid them. S' Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Chrift to fuffer, and to rife from the dead the third day, and that repentance, and remiffion of fins fhould be preached in his name among all nations, beinning at Jerufalem. And ye are vvitneffes of these Sings.
