HYMN. SPEAKING of Jesus,-but in sorrow, Learning from Jesus,-on they journeyed, Nor could the stranger leave them thus, 66 "Abide with us, for night is coming, Wherefore should'st thou further roam?" So Jesus, in his risen glory Entered the disciples' home; His words of blessing broke the spell,— 'Twas but a moment they beheld him, "Our Lord is risen indeed," they say, "And he was with us by the way." Thou risen Saviour! now ascended, Meet us like these favoured Two; P PRAYER. O Holy O Lord our God, we thank thee for our Bibles, and for all that is written in them about Jesus. We pray thee to forgive us when we read carelessly, and without trying to understand. Spirit, we pray thee to come and teach us; open the eyes of our understanding; make us know the real meaning of what we read, and make our hearts feel it, until they are warm within us, as the disciples felt when Jesus was explaining the Scriptures to them. Forgive, O heavenly Father, all our foolish and sinful words, and help us to speak more to one another of good and holy things, not so often of folly, so that we may help each other to be ready for heaven. Hear us for our dear Saviour's sake. Amen. |
