HYMN.

SPEAKING of Jesus,-but in sorrow,
Two disciples went their way,
Remembering the grave, where buried
All their hope and comfort lay;
Yet though he filled their every thought,
He met them, and they knew him not.

Learning from Jesus,-on they journeyed,
With what speed the moment's flew!
While, of himself, he kindly reasoned
Till Emmaus stood in view;

Nor could the stranger leave them thus,
Abide," they cried, "Abide with us!"

66

"Abide with us, for night is coming,

Wherefore should'st thou further roam?" So Jesus, in his risen glory

Entered the disciples' home;

His words of blessing broke the spell,—
They knew the Lord they loved so well.

'Twas but a moment they beheld him,
But the sight was not in vain,-
Their faith had grasped the mighty vision,
Jesus was alive again!

"Our Lord is risen indeed," they say,

"And he was with us by the way."

Thou risen Saviour! now ascended,

Meet us like these favoured Two;
Now, let our faith behold thy glory
As thy children still may do ;
And while we journey; while 'tis day,
Lord, meet and teach us by the way!

PRAYER.

O Holy

O Lord our God, we thank thee for our Bibles, and for all that is written in them about Jesus. We pray thee to forgive us when we read carelessly, and without trying to understand. Spirit, we pray thee to come and teach us; open the eyes of our understanding; make us know the real meaning of what we read, and make our hearts feel it, until they are warm within us, as the disciples felt when Jesus was explaining the Scriptures to them. Forgive, O heavenly Father, all our foolish and sinful words, and help us to speak more to one another of good and holy things, not so often of folly, so that we may help each other to be ready for heaven. Hear us for our dear Saviour's sake. Amen.
