them, and not easily give up. And even a child who does not like to speak may give a tract to a poor person, as you see papa and I do when we are walking."

Oh, mamma," said Ellen, may I do that when I walk with you? I have got a sixpence in my box; will you buy

the tracts with it?"

"Yes; I shall be glad to do so." "And me too, mamma," said Harry. Yes, my dear. A friend of my own told me, that her dear little boy, who died when he was as young as you, was always anxious to have tracts to give away when they were walking and travelling. She used to think he was an infant preacher, though God took him home so soon."

Oh, mamma, if he had but lived to preach really!"

"His papa and mamma would have thought that very delightful; but still they knew it was happier for their dear boy that he went so soon to heaven. Now, is there any of the verses we have read which will do for your book?"

"I think what the woman says to the people in the town, 'Come, see a man that told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?'"

"That will do very well; and when you read it, you must remember that he knows all you do, as well as he knew all her story. And, Harry, you can repeat a hymn about that."

HYMN.

LITTLE child, when you're at play,

Do you know that Jesus sees you?
He it is who made the day,

Sunshine, birds, and flowers, to please you;
Oh, then, thank him much, and pray,

To be grateful every day.

Little child, when you're afraid,

Do you you know that Christ is by you?

See His care, then, He has said,
Ask, and I will not deny you:

And He never fails to hear;
He will keep you, do not fear.

Little child, when you are bad,

Do you think that Jesus knows it?
Yes; and oh, it makes Him glad,
When you're sorry, and disclose it:
Oh! then, tell Him quick, and pray,
To grow better every day.

PRAYER.

All things

O LORD, thou knowest all things; all we think, and speak, and do. are naked and open before thee. us always to remember this.

Help We are

ashamed to think how much of sin and vanity thou seest in these hearts of ours. O make us feel our sins, as the poor Samaritan woman did, and forgive them, for Jesus' sake. Give us the living water, the gift of the Holy Spirit. And when we are converted ourselves, help us to bring others to thee. Make us useful in telling others of Jesus, even when we are young. We thank thee that we have such a Saviour, who was both God and man; who can feel for us, and help us. O give us real faith in him, and hear us, for his sake. Amen.
