HYMNS.

1

WORSHIP.

Psalm of the Seraphim.

Isaiah vi. 3.

1 HOLY, Holy, Holy LORD,

God of Hosts! when heaven and earth,
Out of darkness at thy word,

Issued into glorious birth,

All thy works before thee stood,
And thine eye beheld them good,
While they sang with sweet accord,
Holy, Holy, Holy LORD!

2 Holy, Holy, Holy! Thee,
One JEHOVAH evermore,
Father, Son, and Spirit! we,
Dust and ashes, would adore;
Lightly by the world esteemed,
From that world by thee redeemed,
Sing we here with glad accord,
Holy, Holy, Holy LORD!

78.

3 Holy, Holy, Holy! All
Heaven's triumphant choirs shall sing,
When the ransomed nations fall
At the footstool of their King:
Then shall saints and seraphim,
Hearts and voices swell one hymn,
Round the throne with full accord,
Holy, Holy, Holy LORD!

2

An ancient Hymn of Praise.

1 THEE we adore, eternal Lord!
We praise thy name with one accord;
Thy saints, who here thy goodness see,
Through all the world do worship thee.
2 To thee aloud all angels cry,

The heavens and all the powers on high:
Thee, holy, holy, holy King,
Lord God of hosts, they ever sing.

3 Th' apostles join the glorious throng;
The prophets swell th' immortal song;
The martyrs' noble army raise
Eternal anthems to thy praise.

4 From day to day, O Lord, do we
Highly exalt and honour thee!
Thy name we worship and adore,
World without end, for evermore!

L. M.

5 Vouchsafe, O Lord, we humbly pray,
To keep us safe from sin this day;
Have mercy, Lord! we trust in thee;
Oh, let us ne'er confounded be!

[blocks in formation]

1 IN thy name, O Lord, assembling,
We, thy people, now draw near;
Teach us to rejoice with trembling;
Speak, and let thy servants hear,
Hear with meekness,

Hear thy word with godly fear.

8s, 7s & 4.

2 While our days on earth are lengthened,
May we give them, Lord, to thee,
Cheered by hope, and daily strengthened,
May we run, nor wearied be,

'Till thy glory

Without clouds in heaven we see.

3 Then in worship, purer, sweeter, Thee, thy people shall adore, Tasting of enjoyment greater

4

Far than thought conceived before;

Full enjoyment,

Full, unmixed, and evermore.

"Surely the Lord is in this Place."

L. M.

1 Lo, God is here!-let us adore,

And own how dreadful is this place!

[blocks in formation]

And silent bow before his face!

2 Lo, God is here!-him, day and night,
United choirs of angels sing;
To him, enthroned above all height,
Let saints their humble worship bring.
3 Lord God of hosts! Oh, may our praise
Thy courts with grateful incense fill!
Still may we stand before thy face,
Still hear and do thy sovereign will!

Universal Worship.

Psa. cxlviii.

1 PRAISE Him, all ye Hosts above, Spirits perfected in love;

Sun and Moon! your voices raise,
Sing, ye Stars! your Maker's praise.
2 Earth! from all thy depths below,
Ocean's hallelujahs flow,

Lightning, Vapour, Wind and Storm,
Hail and Snow! His will perform.

3 Vales and Mountains! burst in song;
Rivers! roll his praise along;

Clap your hands, ye Trees! and hail
GOD, who comes in every gale.

4 Birds! on wings of rapture soar,
Warble at His temple door,

78.

Joyful sounds from Herds and Flocks,
Echo back, ye Caves and Rocks!

5 Kings! your Sovereign serve with awe;
Judges! own His righteous law;
Princes! worship Him with fear;
Bow the knee, all People! here.

6 High above all height His throne,
Excellent His name alone;

[blocks in formation]

1 THE festal morn, my God, is come,
That calls me to thy hallowed dome,
Thy presence to adore:

My feet the summons shall attend,
With willing steps thy courts ascend,
And tread the sacred floor.

2 With joy shall I behold the day,
That calls my thirsting soul away,—
To dwell among the blest!
For lo! my great Redeemer's power
Unfolds the everlasting door,

And leads me to his rest!

3 E'en now, to my expecting eyes,
The heaven-built towers of Salem rise:
E'en now, with glad survey,
