the Scriptures the things concerning himself; after opening their understandings that they might understand the Scriptures;* after "being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God;" will you say, that after all this, our Lord left his disciples fully possessed with a gross delusion? If they knew no better than this, what did they know? what had they, with all their inestimable and unequalled privileges, learned respecting the kingdom of God? No-I believe the disciples of our Lord had clear and scriptural views respecting the future destiny of Israel.

Isaiah Ìxii. 6, 7.—I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night; ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence; and give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

4. THE JEWS BROUGHT TO REPENTANCE THROUGH THE SPIRIT OF GRACE AND FAITH IN CHRIST CRUCIFIED.

ZECHARIAH xii. 10.-And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications; and they shall look upon him whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
