33 And if a Man purchafe of the Levites, then the Houfe that was fold, and the City of his Pofleflion fhall go out in the Year of Jubilee for the Houfes of the Cities of the Levites are their Poffeffion among the Children of

Ifrael.

34 But the Field of the Suburbs of their Cities may not be fold, for it is their perpetual Poffeffion.

35 And if thy Brother be waxen poor, and fallen in Decay with thee; then thou fhalt RELIEVE him: yea, though he be a Stranger, or a Sojourner; that he may live with thee.

the Glory of the LORD fhall be thy Rere ward.

James v. I Go to now, ye rich Men, weep and howl for your Miferies that fhall come upon you.

2 Your Riches are corrupted, and your Garments are Moth-eaten.

3 Your Gold and Silver is cankered; and the Ruft of them shall be a Witnefs gainft you, and fhall eat your Flesh as it were Fire: ye have heaped Treasure together for the last Days.

4 Behold, the HIRE of the Labour

ers which have reaped down your Fields, which is of you kept back by

Fraud, crieth: and the Cries of them which have reaped, are entied into

the Ears of the LORD of Sabaoth.

s Ye have lived in Pleasure on

the Earth and been wanton; ye have

nourished your Hearts, as in a Day of Slaughter.

6 Ye have condemned, and killed the Juft; and he doth not relift you.

36 Take thou no Ufury of him, or Increase but FEAR thy GoD; that thy Brother may live with thee.

37 Thou fhalt not give him thy Money upon Ufury, nor lend him thy Victuals for Increase.

38 I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the Land of Egypt, to give you the Land of Canaan, and to be your GOD.

39 And if thy Brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be fold unto thee; thou fhalt not compel him to ferve as a Bond-fervant :

40 But as an hired Servant, and as a Sojourner, he shall be with thee, and fhall ferve thee unto the Year of Jubilee.

41 And then fhall he depart from thee, both he and his Children with him, and fhall return unto his own Family, and unto the Poffeflion of his Father fhall he return.

42 For they are my Servants, which I brought forth out of the Land of Egypt: they fhall not be fold as Bond-men. 43 Thou shalt not rule over him with RIGOUR, but shalt FEAR thy God.

44 Both thy Bond-men, and thy Bond-maids, which thou fhalt have, fhall be of the Heathen that are round about you; of them fhall ye buy Bond-men and Bond-maids.

45 Moreover, of the Children of the Strangers that do

fojourn

fojourn among you, of them fhall ye buy, and of their Families that are with you, which they begat in your Land: and they fhall be your Poffeffion.

45 And ye fhall take them as an Inheritance for your Children after you, to inherit them for a Poffeffion, they fhall be your Bond-men for ever: but over your Brethren the Children of Ifrael, ye fhall not rule one over another with Rigour.

47 And if a Sojourner or Stranger wax rich by thee, and thy Brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and fell himself unto the Stranger or Sojourner by thee, or to the Stock of the Stranger's Family:

48 After that he is fold, he may be redeemed again; one of his Brethren may redeem him:

49 Either his Uncle, or his Uncle's Son may redeem him, or any that is nigh of Kin unto him, of his Family, may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself.

50 And he fhall reckon with him that bought him, from the Year that he was fold to him, unto the Year of Jubilee : and the Price of his Sale fhall be according unto the Number of Years, according to the Time of an hired Servant fhall it be with him.

51 If there be yet many Years behind; according unto them he fhall give again the Price of his Redemption, out of the Money that he was bought for.

52 And if there remain but few Years unto the Year of Jubilee, then he fhall count with him, and according unto his Years fhall he give him again the Price of his Redemption.

53 And as a yearly hired Servant fhall he be WITH him: and the other fhall not rule with Rigour over him in thy Sight.

54 And if he be not redeemed in these Years, then he fhall go out in the Year of Jubilee, both he, and his Children with him.

55 For unto me the Children of Ifrael are Servants, they are my Servants whom I brought forth out of the Land of Egypt: I am the LORD your GOD.

2 Ye fhall keep my Sabbaths, and reverence my SanEtuary I am the LORD.

3 If ye walk in my Statutes, and keep my Commandments, and do them;

4 Then I will give you Rain in due Seafon; and the Land thall yield her Increafe, and the Trees of the Field fhall yield their Fruit.

5 And your Threshing fhall reach unto the Vintage, and the Vintage fhall reach unto the Sowing-time and ye fhall eat your Bread to the Full, and dwell in your Land fafely.

6 And I will give Peace in the Land, and ye fhall lie down, and none fhall make you afraid and I will rid evil Beafts out of the Land, neither fhall the Sword go through your Land.

7 And ye fhall chafe your Enemies, and they fhall fall before you by the Sword.

As Mofes in this Chapter affures the Ifraelites of the great Succeffes, and many Felicities they should enjoy in the Land of Canaan, as long as they continue in their Obedience to the Divine Commands; fo he foretels the terrible Judgments and great Calamities that fhould come upon them, for their Idolatries and Difobedience.

The Hiftory of this Nation fully verifys the Truth of thefe Predictions, which will appear from the follow

ing Inftances:

1st, As the Red Sea was divided for

the Deliverance of the Ifraelites from the Egyptians, fo was the River Fordan (when it had overflown it's Banks) for the Paflage of their Army.

2dly, The Walls of Jericho, which

the Spyes had reported to be impregnable, by an immediate and almigh y Power, fell down before them.

3dy, Joshua fubdued, and took Poffeflion of the whole Land of Canaan, (the Sun ftanding ftill upon his Prayer) by which the Promifes to Abraham were literally fulfilled.

4thly, In the Story of Sampson, Gideon, Barak, Jonathan, David, and his Captains, and other Kings, were accomplished the Promifes of the great Victories they fhould obtain, while they confided in the LORD of HOSTS.

sthly, In the Reigns of David and Solomon, all the Nations from the Banks of the great River Euphrates, to the Borders of Egypt, were fubje&ted to them, and the divine Prefence or Schekina was continued in the San&uary and fift Temple.

6thly, Their Riches were fo great, that David left to Solomon a greater

Treasure than is now current in the whole known World, being an hundred thoufand Talents of Gold, and a thousand thousand Talents of Sil

But as their Obedience was reward

nemies fhall fall before you by the Sword.

9 For I will have Refpect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and eftablish my Covenant with you.

10 And ye fhall eat old Store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

11 And I will fet my Tabernacle amongst you and my Soul fhall not abhor you. 12 And I will walk among you, and will be your GOD, and ye fhall be my People.

13 I am the LORD your GOD, which brought you forth out of the Land of Egypt, that ye fhould not be their Bond-men, and I have broken the Bands of your Yoke, and made you go upright.

14 But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all thefe Commandments:

15 And if ye fhall defpife my Statutes, or if your Soul abhor my Judgments, fo that ye will not do all my Commandments, but that ye break my Covenant:

16 I alfo will do this unto you, I will even appoint over you Terror, Confumption, and the burning Ague; that fhall confume the Eye, and

3dly, Jeroboam caufes two golden Calves to be fet up, and commands his Subjects to worship them.

This publick Idolatry is continued during the Reigns of the feveral Kings of Ifrael, till the Time of Hofhea, when the ten Tribes were carried Captive by Salmon Ezer, their Cities deftroyed, and their Country laid defolate; from which Captivity they have never yet been restored. Which Difperfion has now lafted above 2400 Years.

But fo mad were they upon their Idols, that in the Time of Manach and other Kings, the Temple itself was polluted with the Idolatry of the Gentiles; and both Prince and People were fo obftinate

in their Impieties, that they mu dered their Prophets, and defpifed all their Threatnings, till they were carried Captive to Babylon by the Chaldeans, who defolated their City, burnt their Temple, and laid waste the whole Countrey.

It may be observed, that Babylon was the Place where Idolatry first began after the Flood; and here it was that the Jews were cured of that could never be reclaimed. But not Idolatry from which their Ancestors withstanding this Deliverance, upon their Refettlement in their own Countrey, they fell into many Impieties, for which they were feverely chaftifed; and at last filled up the Measure of their Rebellions in rejecting the MESSIAH, whom they had fo long, and at that very Time expected, and putting to Death the LORD of Life and Glory, and perfecuting those that believed in him, for which they were pursued by the divine Vengeance.

And herein the Prediction of OUR SAVIOUR was literally fulfilled, That not one Stone should be left upon another.
