33 And Mofes faid unto Aaron, Take a Pot, and put an Omer full of MANNA therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your Generations.

34 As the LORD commanded Mofes, fo Aaron laid it up before the Teftimony, to be kept.

35 And the Children of Ifrael did eat MANNA FORTY Years, until they came to a Land inhabited: they did eat Manna, until they came unto the Borders of the Land of Canaan.

CHA P. XVII.

1 The People murmur for IVater at Rephidim. 5 Mofes fent to the Rock in Horeb. 8 Amalek is overcome.

Ver. 1 AND all the Congregation of the Children of If

journeyed from the Wilderness of Sin, after their Journeys, according to the Commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no WATER for the People to drink.

2 Wherefore the People did chide with Mofes, and faid, Give us Water that we may drink. And Mofes faid unto them, Why chide you with me? Wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?

3 And the People thirfted there for Water; and the People† MURMURED againft Mofes, and faid, Wherefore is this that thou haft brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our Children, and our Cattle with Thirt?

4 And Mofes cried unto the LORD, faying, What fhall I do unto this People? they be almoft ready to ftone me.

5 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Go on before the People, and take with thee of the Elders of Ifrael: and thy ROD wherewith thou fmoteft the River, take in thine Hand, and go.

6 g Behold, I will ftand before thee there upon the ROCK in Horeb, and thou fhalt fmite the Rock, and there fhall come WATER Out of it, that the People may drink. And Mofes did fo in

8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Ifrael in Rephi

9 And Mofes faid unto Jofhua, Chufe us out Men, and go out, fight with Amalek: To-morrow I will ftand on the Top of the Hill, with the ROD of GOD in mine Hand.

10 So Joshua did as MoSES had faid to him, and fought with Amalek: and Mofes, Aaron, and Hur, went up to the Top of the Hill.

13 And Joshua difcomfited Amalek and his People with the Edge of the Sword.

14 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Write this for a Memorial in a Book, and rehearse it in the Ears of Joshua : for I will utterly put out the Remembrance of Amalek from under Heaven.

15 And Mofes built an Altar, and called the Name of it JEHOVAH-nissi.

The Divine Grace is often represented by the Emblem of Springs of Water, and by the Bread that defcends from Heaven; both refreshing and fustaining the Divine Life in the Soul.

CHAP.

CHAP. XVIII.

1 Jethro bringeth to Mofes his Wife and two Sons: 7 Mofes entertaineth him, 13 and accepteth his Counsel.

CHAP. XIX.

The People come to Sinai. 3 GOD's Meffage to the People out of the Mount: 8 Their Answer returned. 16 The fearful Prefence of GOD upon the Mount.

Ver. 1TN the third Month, when the Children of Ifrael were gone forth out of the Land of Egypt, the fame Day came they into the Wilderness of Sinai.

2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the Defart of Sinai, and had pitched in the Wilderness, and there Ifrael camped before the Mount.

3 And Mofes went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the Mountain, faying, Thus fhalt thou fay unto the Houfe of Jacob, and tell the Children of Ifrael;

4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I BARE you on EAGLE'S Wings, and brought you unto myfelf.

5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my Voice indeed, and keep my COVENANT, then fhall be a PECULIAR ye TREASURE unto me above all People for all the Earth is mine.

9 Thou whom I have TAKEN from the Ends of the Earth, and called thee from the chief Ends thereof, and faid unto thee, Thou art my SERVANT, I have CHOSEN thee, and not cast thee away.

1 John iii. 1 Behold what manner of Love the FATHER hath BESTOWED upon us, that we should be CALLED the Sons of GoD: therefore the World knoweth us not, because it KNEW him not.

2 Now are we the Sons of GOD, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know, that when he fhall APPEAR, we shall be LIKE him, for wę fhall see him as he is.

3 And every Man that hath this HOPE in him, PURIFIETH himself, even as he is pure

Col. i. 12 GIVING THANKS unto the FATHER, which hath made us MEET to be PARTAKERS of the INHERITANCE of the SAINTS in LIGHT:

6 And ye fhall be unto me a Kingdom of PRIESTS, and an HOLY NATION. These are the Words which thou fhalt speak unto the Children of Ifrael.

7 And MOSES came and called for the Elders of the People, and laid before their Faces all thefe Words which the LORD commanded him.

8 And all the People anfwered together, and faid, All that the LORD hath spoken, we will do. And Mofes returned the Words of the People unto the LORD.

9 And the LORD faid unto MOSES, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick Cloud, that the People may hear when I

NERATION, a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, an that ye fhould fhew forth the PRAISES of him who hath called you out of DARKNESS into his marvellous LIGHT.

HOLY NATION, a PECULIAR PEOPLE,

10 Which in time paft were not a People, but are now the PEOPLE of GOD: which had not obtained MERcy, but now have obtained Mercy.

II Dearly beloved, I beseech you as Strangers and PILGRIMS, abftain from FLESHLY LUSTS, which WAR against the Soul;

Rev. i. 4 GRACE be unto you, and PEACE from him which is, and which WAS, and which IS TO COME; the FAITHFUL WITNESS, and the FIRSTs And from JESUS CHRIST, who is BEGOTTEN of the DEAD, and the PRINCE of the KINGS of the EARTH: unto him that LOVED us, and WASHED US from our SINS in his own BLOOD,

6 And hath made us KINGS and

PRIESTS unto GOD and his FATHER;

to him be GLORY and DOMINION for

ever and ever.

10 And the LORD faid unto MOSES, Go unto the People, and SANCTIFY them To-day and To-morrow, and let them wash their Cloaths,

11 And be ready against the third Day: for the third Day the LORD will come down in the Sight of all the People upon Mount Sinai.

12 And thou fhalt fet Bounds unto the People round about, faying, Take heed to yourfelves, that ye go not up into the Mount, or touch the Border of it: whofoever TOUCHETH the Mount, fhall be surely put to DEATH.

13 There shall not an Hand touch it, but he fhall furely be ftoned or fhot through; whether it be Beast or Man, it fhall not LIVE: when the TRUMPET foundeth long, they shall come up to the Mount,

14 And MOSES went down from the Mount unto the People, and SANCTIFIED the People, and they washed their Cloaths.

15 And he faid unto the People, Be ready against the third Day come not at your Wives.

16 And it came to pafs on the third Day in the Morning, that there were THUNDERS and LIGHTNINGS, and a thick CLOUD upon the MOUNT, and the VOICE of the Trumpet EXCEEDING LOUD; fo that all the People that was in the Camp TREMBLED.

17 And Mofes brought forth the People out of the Camp to meet with GOD, and they ftood at the nether Part of the Mount.

18 And Mount SINAI was altogether on a SMOKE, because the LORD DESCENDED upon it in FIRE: and the SMOKE thereof afcended as the Smoke of a Furnace, and the whole MoUNT QUAKED greatly.

19 And when the VOICE of the TRUMPET founded long, and waxed louder and louder, MOSES fpake, and GOD answered him by a Voice.

to BLACKNESS, and DARKNESS, and TEMPEST.

19 And the SOUND of a TRUMPET, and the VOICE of WORDS, which VOICE they that heard, intreated that the WORD fhould not be spoken to them any more:

20 (For they could not ENDURE that which was COMMANDED. And if

fo much as a Beaft touch the Mountain, it fhall be ftoned, or thrust

through with a Dart.

21 And fo TERRIBLE was the Sight, that Moses faid, I exceedingly FEAR and QUAKE)

22 But YE are come unto Mount 20 And the LORD came SION, and unto the CITY of the LIVING GOD, the HEAVENLY JERUSA

down upon Mount SINAI, on the Top of the Mount: and the LORD called Mofes

up to the Top of the Mount, and Mofes went up.

21 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Go down, charge the People, left they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perifh.

22 And let the PRIESTS alfo which come near to the LORD, SANCTIFY themselves, left the LORD break forth upon them.

LEM, and to an innumerable Company of ANGELS.

23 To the General ASSEMBLY and CHURCH of the FIRST-BORN, which

are written in HEAVEN, and to GOD the JUDGE of all, and to the SPIRITS of JUST Men made PERFECT.

24 And to JESUS the MEDIATOR of the NEW COVENANT, and to the BLOOD of SPRINKLING, that speaketh BETTER Things than that of ABEL.

25 See that ye REFUSE not him that SPEAKETH: for if they ESCAPED not, who refufed him that SPAKE ON EARTH, much more fhall not we ESCAPE, if we TURN away from him that SPEAKETH from HEAVEN:

26 Whofe VOICE then SHOOK the EARTH: but now he hath promised, 24 And
