Favors asked in Christ's name.

after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 33. Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? 37. In all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved

us.

1 Cor. 15. 57. Thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Gal. 2. 19. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Gal. 5. 18. If ye be led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Ep. 2. 18. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Ep. 3. 12. In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

Col. 1. 21. And you that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled, In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblamable, and unreprovable in his sight: If ye continue in the faith.

Heb. 10. 14. For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified. 19. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the vail, that is to say, his flesh.

33. Ought we to ask blessings in Christ's name ?

Jn. 14. 13. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I

will do it.

Col. 3. 17. And whatsover ye do in word or deed,

do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

34. What are the gospel terms of justification?

Rom; 3. 28. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith, without the deeds of the law. 30. Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumci sion by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Rom. 4. 3. Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that. worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Rom. 5. 1. Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ; By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

35. What is the scriptural evidence of justification, and title to eternal life?

Mat. 7. 16. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit: but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 20. Wherefore, by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Jn. 13. 35. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Jn. 14. 21. He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me. 23. If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will

love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Rom. 8. 9. If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 14. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God,

Jam. 2. 17. Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

1 Jn. 2. 3. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and, the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: Hereby know we that we are in him.

1 Jn. 3. 14. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 18. My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 24. He that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

1 Jn. 5. 1. Every one that loveth him that begat, loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God that we keep his commandments: And his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God, overcometh the world. (See 262.)

36. Is the gospel method of justification honorable to God and his law?

Ps. 85. 10. Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

Is. 42. 21. The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honorable.

Rom. 3. 26. To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness; that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 31. Do we then make

Ac. 22. 16. And now, why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

38. Does baptism denote the necessity of moral purification?

Mat. 3. 11. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.

Jn. 3. 5. Except a man be born of water, and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Ep. 5. 25. Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it, That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water, by the word.

39. What kind was John's baptism, that does not appear to have been performed in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost?

Mat. 3. 11. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance.

Mk. 1. 4. John did baptize in the wilderness, and

preach the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins. Lk. 3. 1. And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins.

Ac. 19. 2. We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
