Rom. 8. 28. The called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son.

Rom. 9. 10. When Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac, (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God, according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth,) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then, Is there unrighteousness with

God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses: I will have mercy, on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Rom. 11. 5. Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 7. What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

Ep. 1. 4. According as he hath chosen us in him, before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love. 11. 1 Pet. 1. 2. Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.

242. Are persons elected before they believe?

Ep. 1. 4. According as he hath chosen us in him, before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.

Rev. 17. 8. And they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, (whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world,) when they behold the beast.

243. Does God effectually call his elect to his service?

Ac. 2. 39. The promise is unto you, and to your

children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Rom. 1. 6. Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: To all that be in Rome, beloved of God called to be saints: Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rom. 8. 30. Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

1 Th. 2. 12. Walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

1 Pet. 2. 9. Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

Rom. 5. 8. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 15. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift. For the judgment was by one to condemna

tion, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness, shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, bath quickened us together with Christ; (by grace are ye saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places, in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
