EZEKIEL, CHAP. XX.

And in some places this HAPHTARAH is said to AUCHRYMOTÁ.

Vauyihe Dyvor Adonie." Then came the word of the Lord unto mo,

saying, son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, thus saith the Lord God, are ye come to enquire of me? as I live saith the Lord God, I will not be enquired of by you. Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers: and say unto them, thus saith the Lord God, in the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself koown unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the Lord your God, in the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt, into a tand that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands: then said I unto them, cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I ain the Lord your God. But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt. Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them., Moreover also, I gave them my Sabbath's, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them. But the house of Israel rebelled agaiost me in the wilderness : they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall eren live in them; and my Sabbath's they greatly polluted: then I said I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness to consume them. But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before כמנהג הספרדים ביחזקאל סימן כי

thou shalt know that I am the Lord. And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross, all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace, they are even the dross of silver. Therefore thus saith the Lord God, because ye are all become dross, behold therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.

HAPHTARAH KYDOUSHIM;

AMOS, CHAP. IX.

And in some places this HAPHTARAH is said to AUCHRYMOTH.

Hau-low Chivny. Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians voto

me, O children of Israel? saith the Lord. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Assyrians from Kir? behold, the eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob saith the Lord. For lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Įsrael among all pations, like as corn is sifted in a sive, yet” shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, the evil shall not overtake nor prevent us. In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof, and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old : that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the Lord that doeth this. Behold, the days come, saith' the Lord, that the plow-man shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes, him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall mett. And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them,

Vauyihe Dyvor Adonie. Moreover, the word of the Lord came

unto me, saying, now thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her abominations. Then say thou, thus saith the Lord God, the city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come and maketh idols against herself, to defile herselfThou" art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed, and hast defiled thyself in thine idols, which thou hast made, and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years; therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a mocking to all countries. Those that be near, and those that be far from thee, shall mock thee, which art infamous, and much vexed. Behold, the princes of Israel, every one were in thee to their power to shed blood. In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow. Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast profaned my Sabbath's. In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood : and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit lewdness. In thee have they discovered their father's nakedness : in thee have they humbled her that was set apart for pollution. And one hath committed abomination with his neighbour's wife, and another hath lewdly defiled his daughter in law, and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father's daughter. In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood : thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbour by extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord God. Behold there. fore I have smitten mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made, and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee. Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the Lord hath spoken it, and will do it. And I will scatter thee among the heathen, and disperse thee in the countries, and will consume thy filthiness out of thee. And thou shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the heathen, and
