to prepare Us to dwell for Ever with his Angels in the Kingdom of Heaven. For this Purpose, let us fincerely depart from all wilful Evil-let us chearfully and freely receive and also cherish in our own Hearts the Heavenly Love and Wisdom of this our true and adorable Parent and Father; and, under the gracious. Influences thereof, let us in all Uprightness endeavour to love Him with all our Hearts, and our Neighbour as Ourfelves, and to live a Life of Usefulness in that State, in which it hath pleased his Divine Providence to place Us.

If We thus wifely act, We fhall not fail to obtain and fecure that bleffed Knowledge of the GOD of Mercy, Truth and Salvation in our own Bosoms, which is fure to make Us now and eternally happy.

It only remains to obferve further, that in Regard to the Notes referred to in various Parts of the Poems, I have thought proper, on Account of their Length and Number, to affix Them at the Close thereof, rather than to infert them in the Body of the Work, where the Reader may easily refer to any Note He is defirous of confulting.

And now commending my Readers to the Divine Bleffing and Guidance, and fincerely praying that the following Poems &c may prove inftrumental in leading Them to the true Knowledge and Love of the LORD JESUS CHRIST, the Alone GOD of the Chriftians, who is the only Creator, Redeemer and Regenerator of Men,

I remain,

Their Affectionate Well-Wisher &c.

PART I.

YE(a) ANGELS who in Heav'n remark

Your great Creator's Pow'r,

Help me in this fweet Earthly Park,
To fpend an useful Hour.
В

Such

Such Scenes as Thefe fhou'd lead the Mind
To GOD, who gave them Birth;
And in whofe Prefence Here we find
A heav'nly Scene on Earth.

For this we into BEING came

HIS wond'rous Works t'admire,
Mankind to love, and praise HIS Name
Who doth our Hearts inspire.

Infpire with WISDOM from Above
HIS Myft'ries here to know;
And whilft, among fuch Scenes, we rove,
From HIM fweet Bleffings flow.

Bleffings! in which the Mind delights
Above each Earthly Thing,
Which fanctify thefe rural Sights,

And Heart-felt Pleasures bring.

But without which thefe Scenes muft leave
An aching Void within;

And to the Duft our Souls muft cleave,
And be vile Slaves to Sin.

Place their Affections here below,
Where They fhou'd ne'er remain;
But rife to GOD, who can beflow
Their first bleft State again.

Who governs all in Heav'n Above,
On Earth hath the Command;
And by his Works to us doth prove
His gracious, fov'reign Hand.

HAWKSTONE!
