GRAD. Ecclus. xliv. Behold a great Prelate, who in his days pleased God. V. There was none found like him in keeping the law of the Most High. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. I am the good shepherd, and I know my sheep, and my sheep know me. Alleluia. GOSPEL. John. x 11, 16. At that time Jesus said to the Pharisees: I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life, for his sheep. But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own sheep they are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep and flieth: and the wolf snatcheth and scattereth the sheep and the hireling flieth because he is a hireling: and he hath no care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know mine, and mine know me; as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep. And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold them also must I bring, and they shall hear my voice: and there shall be made one fold and one shepherd. THE CREED.

EPISTLE. Gal. iv. 1, 7. Brethren: As long as the heir is a child, he differeth nothing from a servant, though he be Lord of all: but is under tutors and governors, until the time appointed by the father: So we, also, when we were children, were serving under the elements of the world. But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent his Son, made of a woman, made under the law: that he might redeem them who were under the law; that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because you are sons, God hath sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying: Abba, Father.
