announced, "Behold he prayeth," will not each of you inquire," Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?" What hope, what courage would it inspire in these dark times, to know that our churches generally were awaking to a spirit of prayer! This your Savior would approve, and with this awakened spirit of prayer, his Spirit would be poured down like the rain and dew that water the earth. Shall then this night end in the dawn of a glorious day of revivals, when there shall be joy in heaven and joy on earth over sinners who shall be converted to God, when your sons and your daughters and the beloved youth around you shall join with you in giving thanks to God for his redeeming mercy? Shall anything on your part be neglected which is needful to bring about such a result? Recall your covenant vows, in the days of your espousal, to be wholly the Lord's, to seek his glory and not your own.

3d. We call your attention to a proper confidence in God. He has not directed you to seek him in vain. The importunate widow was compelled to plead her case before an unjust judge, one who feared not God nor regarded man. But you are to come before the Father of mercies, the Savior of sinners, who yielded himself up unto death for our redemption. He is a God at hand and not afar off, able to supply all your wants and to meet every desire. He is the refuge of his people. Such he has been to you. O do not forget the time when in the distress of your souls he appeared for your deliverance! How gracious was he! Can you not trust him still, trust him in all your wants? How able is he to cause light to shine out of darkness, and joy and gladness to succeed sorrow and sighing! His promises in which "he has caused you to hope" will not fail. The time will come when God will "arise and have mercy upon Zion. The time to favor her, the set time will come. For his servants yet take pleasure in her stones and favor the dust thereof." No discouragements should be allowed to shake our confidence in God or move us from the duties which we owe to him. Every instance of successful prayer recorded in the divine record should be for our encouragement. Abraham, Jacob, Joshua, Elijah, David and Daniel were examples of this kind and on this account were the benefactors of their race. They had confidence in his promises and acted accordingly. There are those, we trust, in our churches who act upon this principle. But we are reminded every year that the number of such is diminishing. The prayerful members of our churches are falling around us. Are there those who are prepared to come forward and occupy their places in the church and in the prayer-meeting, and sustain their influence and example? Let the question come home to each one who hopes in the mercy of God. Does he not call you to take the place of some faithful servant whom he has called to his reward?— And are you ready for the labor, for the sacrifice, for the self-denial requisite for such a purpose! "Occupy till I come," is the injunction of our Lord. Before another annual address from us, many of you will have passed into eternity. May you come to the close of your earthly course in the spirit of prayer and of humble confidence in God. ISAAC WILLEY.
