all succeeding ages, until there shall be "time no longer," eternal life has been obtained, is obtained, and can be obtained, through Christ only, through His atonement, through His covenant of redemption. For, if the salvation of man could be effected by any other means, then was the sacrifice of Christ a superfluous offering. "It shall be in that day," says Zechariah, speaking of the coming of Christ, "that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them to the former sea, and half of them to the hinder sea1." Christ is the fountain of those "living waters 2" which form the " pure river of water of life," proceeding out of the throne of GOD and of the Lamb; and these waters flow toward the sea, and “ being brought forth into the sea, the waters [i. e. of the sea] shall be healed." The term sea is figuratively employed in Holy Writ to denote the infidel world. The "living waters" of Christ flowing into that sea, cause it to be healed; for He will heal the spiritual Egypts; half of the living waters go toward the "former sea;" they extend backward to heal the former spiritual sea, their retrospective operation extends to the beginning of time; half of them go toward “the hinder sea,” they extend forward to the time which is yet to come; in their prospective operation they heal the spiritual sea, until there shall be "no more sea," when there shall be "time no longer"." "The end of the world","" the day of the Lord," the second coming of Christ", "the great and terrible day of the Lord," is thus announced: "The sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers of heaven shall be shaken, and then they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and gloryd." "The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat; the earth also and the works that are therein shall be

burnt up; the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat ;" and there shall be "new heavens and a new earth, and the former shall not be remembered nor come to mind." "Behold, He cometh with clouds, and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him, and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Hims." "The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of GOD, and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we which are alive and remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord." "All that are in the graves shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." glory, and all the holy angels with Him; then shall He sit on the throne of His glory, and before Him shall be gathered all nations"." " I saw the dead, small and great, stand before GOD; and the books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life ; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell [Hades] delivered up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every man according to their works. And death and hell [Hades] were cast into the lake of fire. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of fire "." And the Son of man shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats; and He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed children of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world"." Thus "we must all appear before the judgment-seat of Christ, that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether they be good or bad"," "in the day when GoD shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ"." "Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come out of your graves, and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you out of your graves, and shall put my spirit into you, and ye shall live, and I will place you in your land." "Thy dead shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust, for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead"." "So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory"."

"The end of the world" is also described under the figure of "the harvest," when Christ "shall gather His wheat into the garner, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable
